Check out our board member, Dario Peña, and many of our Rising Hope alumni grace the big screen this summer in the movie Sing Sing. Which is based on the life experience of our Rising Hope alum, John "Divine G" Whitfield! The movie opens in select theaters on July 12 and more broadly in August. Be sure to check it out.

Last week I had the amazing opportunity to attend the preview for the upcoming film Sing Sing, based on the prison theater program Rehabilitation Through the Arts, sitting in the same chapel inside Sing Sing Correctional Facility where the program originated almost 30 years ago. The lives of individuals who are incarcerated are completely invisible to most of our society. In the absence of information many judgements and assumptions are made. Many of these judgements have been formed because of how the media portrays violence and chaos in prison. I was pleased to see a film that captured the experience of individuals living inside of prison who are focused on learning, growing, and giving back. The movie Sing Sing highlights the deep reflections and friendships that are formed in prison. I highly recommend the film.
