MIWA reposted this
On Friday I was privileged to be interviewed by Lihle Mosiane from Car Club TV talking about the services the Retail Motor Industry Organisation accredited associations can offer motorists. We spoke about the RMI and the important role it plays in the automotive aftermarket. We also most importantly discussed at length the importance of only using accredited member businesses so you are assured of a professional and quality service. This interview will be part of a series to flight early in 2025 but in the meantime we will be sending out a lot of consumer education pieces to help motorists navigate the roads over the next couple of months. Thank you to Lihle and Car Club TV for giving me this opportunity. #RMI #LihleMosiane #CarClubTV #AutomotiveAftermarket #RMIAccreditedBusiness

SPOTLIGHT ON ROAD SAFETY | The Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI), with the full support of MIWA, is calling for a major shift in South African road safety through the implementation of Periodic Vehicle Testing and Inspection (PTI). But why is this so crucial right now? The World Health Organization’s (WHO) latest Global Status Report on Road Safety identifies PTIs as a key factor in reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities. With only 21% of South Africa’s 13 million vehicles currently undergoing regular safety checks, the risks to road users are clear. Read the full report here: https://vist.ly/3mjmjk3 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: • Safer vehicles mean fewer accidents on our roads. • Job creation thrives through expanded vehicle inspection services. • South Africa’s automotive industry sets new standards in road safety. Ipeleng Mabusela, CEO of Strategy and Corporate Support at RMI, is prepared to collaborate with Minister Barbara Creecy D and other stakeholders to make this vision a reality. With the regulation already published but awaiting enactment, the time for change is now. 👉 What do you believe is the most urgent step we need to take to improve vehicle safety? Let’s hear your thoughts below! #MIWA #rmiMWA #RoadSafety #TransportMonth #LegislativeChange #RMITalks #VehicleInspections #SafetyFirst #WHOReport

SUMMER HOLIDAY TRAVEL ☀️⛱️ | It’s almost the end of October already – you have your holiday booked, year-end exams are in your sights for kids and most companies are giving a final push to ensure they end the year off well. So with about eight weeks left before most families start packing up and planning for a well-earned festive summer holiday, now is the time to start planning and checking your vehicle so that your road trip is safe and incident-free. MIWA Chairperson Dewald Rantf says drivers have a big responsibility when getting behind the wheel but it is important to remember that no amount of driver preparedness will make up for your vehicle letting you down due to a mechanical or other fault. “The driver needs to get enough sleep beforehand, plan the route, check the weather, make sure their phone is fully charged, etc. These things are essential but to ensure total peace of mind you must know that your vehicle is up to the trip. “It is careless to leave vehicle maintenance to chance, especially in South Africa where our roads are unsafe and poorly maintained, making even daytime driving hazardous. “Performing a vehicle inspection should be part of everyone’s road trip planning process. Many accidents are caused by poor vehicle maintenance, which is why it is so important to take extra precautions before embarking on your journey. Also, check that your car insurance and licence disc are up to date and take a look at your insurance policy to familiarise yourself with the coverage you have,” says Dewaldt. ✅ Scroll through the slides to see what vehicle checks MIWA advises should be done before hitting the road this December. “Take the time to get these checks done at an accredited workshop under the guidance of an expert technician well in advance of leaving. The Vehicle Testing Association will also be running some free holiday checks so watch out for these too. 🚫 “To drivers, we strongly urge obeying the rules of the road, not drinking and driving or drinking and texting, don’t speed and take regular breaks,” says Dewald. #MIWA #rmiMIWA #RMI #HolidayTravel #SummerRoadTrip #RoadSafety #VehicleInspection #AccreditedWorkshop #VehicleTestingAssociation

SPOTLIGHT ON ROAD SAFETY | This October, during Transport Month, we are highlighting a critical aspect of road safety: Periodic Vehicle Testing and Inspection (PTI). Despite a 2.5% decrease in fatal crashes in 2023, South Africa’s roads remain among the most dangerous, with over 13 million vehicles in circulation—79% of which do not undergo regular safety checks. MIWA stands with the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI) in advocating for PTI. Here’s why this is so important: • 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆: Regular inspections help ensure that vehicles on our roads are safe and less likely to contribute to accidents. • 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵: PTIs create jobs within vehicle inspection services, supporting local economies. • 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The World Health Organization (WHO) identifies PTIs as a critical measure in reducing road fatalities. Let’s bring these international standards to South Africa. 📊 You can download the full WHO report here: https://vist.ly/3mjgn6i While vehicle testing is just one piece of the puzzle, it must work alongside stronger law enforcement, educational initiatives, and efforts to remove unroadworthy vehicles. We’re committed to making this vision a reality. 👉 What strategies do you think will have the most impact on reducing road fatalities in South Africa? #MIWA #rmiMWA #RoadSafety #TransportMonth #PeriodicTesting #SaferRoads #WHOReport #VehicleSafety

Tonight our Retail Motor Industry Organisation CEO, Ipeleng Mabusela, will be discussing a very important topic which impacts all South Africans and one which is particularly pertinent during October, being Transport Month. At the RMI and MIWA we are deeply concerned that South Africa has one of the highest number of fatalities from road crashes in the world. In the first quarter of 2024 we have seen a 12,81% increase in fatalities and 9,15% in fatal crashes. Placing the spotlight on safety is particularly important as we get closer to the December holiday rush. 👉🏾 Tune in tonight at 21:10 to Channel 403 on eNCA to listen to the conversation with Abigail Visagie. #MIWA #rmiMIWA #RMI #RoadSafety #TransportMonth #NewsNight
