Robin Hood recently hosted a Corporate Engagement Day with our partners at iMentor, bringing together 11th- and 12th-grade students and corporate partners for an inspiring day of mentorship and skill-building! From elevator pitches to SMART goal exercises, the event featured a series of volunteer activities, followed by a powerful panel discussion with Robin Hood Board Member and Blue Ridge Capital Founder John Griffin, Robin Hood CEO Richard Buery and Chief Program & Impact Officer Matthew Klein, and iMentor CEO Dr. Heather Wathington, moderated by our Managing Director of Partnerships Hana Haile-Mariam. This day highlighted the critical role mentorship plays, not just for students, but also for corporate partners, as we work together to build the next generation of leaders. iMentor, founded by John Griffin alongside Richard Buery and Matt Klein, has grown from serving 49 students in the South Bronx to over 42,000 students nationwide—including in New York City, Chicago, the Bay Area, and Baltimore. We are proud to support such impactful work through our partnership with iMentor. Are you interested in joining a Corporate Engagement Day? Global Corporate Social Responsibility & Employee Engagement Leader | Goldman Sachs Alum

At Paul Hastings, fostering thought leadership between the nonprofit community and our people and clients is central to our commitment to corporate social responsibility and our city. In our new #PHNonprofitSpotlightSeries, we hosted a conversation between Robin Hood CEO Richard Buery Jr. and Paul Hastings Partner Shawn Kodes. The dialogue highlighted Robin Hood's mission to combat poverty and inequality, emphasizing education as a key driver of economic mobility. Rich underscored the pivotal role of learning opportunities, stressing the importance of achieving key milestones in reading and math for school-age children to break the cycle of poverty. This reinforces one of our community outreach initiatives that we launched last school year focused on mentoring through dedicated reading sessions with elementary-aged children. Rich's poignant reminder that "Hopelessness is the enemy of justice," attributed to Bryan Stevenson, resonated deeply, reinforcing the significance of perseverance in our community upliftment endeavors. Witnessing how meaningful connections can pave the way for impactful solutions was truly inspiring. I am grateful for the chance to facilitate this dialogue and creating catalytic conversations to empower impactful work. Thank you Robin Hood’s team - Hana Haile-Mariam, Kate Davis, and Chris Campbell - for all of your partnership! At Robin Hood, we believe that every story we tell, every message we share, has the power to change lives. That’s why our communications team is attending #ComNet24 by The Communications Network, where we join others who are committed to using communication for good. It’s more than just sharing updates or numbers—it’s about connecting with people on a human level, inspiring hope, and showing that together, we can fight poverty in NYC. A special thanks to Kevin Frederick Thompson, our Managing Director of Communications, for leading the charge. Kevin ensures that Robin Hood’s mission isn’t just heard, but felt. His dedication to telling the stories of those impacted by poverty helps us bring their voices to the forefront—so our work is never in isolation but part of a larger movement for change. We’re also grateful to Crystal Cooper, Mary Power, Jasmine Baker Taddeo, and Cory Winter for their passion and commitment to making sure Robin Hood’s message reaches everyone who needs to hear it. Our fight against poverty is about more than policy or programs—it’s about people. And we’re committed to telling their stories, building connections, and mobilizing a city to stand with us. #FightPoverty

This morning, Robin Hood CEO Richard Buery joined a thought-provoking panel at the Financial Times Moral Money Summit, where he shared how Robin Hood is making strides in advancing equity and inclusion. The discussion—focused on rethinking corporate diversity efforts in a divided US—highlighted how DEI initiatives remain critical despite growing opposition. Alongside leaders like Roy Swan from the Ford Foundation, Rich emphasized that fighting poverty requires confronting systemic inequities head-on. And at Robin Hood, we’re not just talking about equity—we’re leading the charge. Nearly two-thirds of our grant portfolio now funds organizations led by people of color across NYC’s five boroughs. In the past year alone, we’ve increased our support to nonprofits led by New Yorkers of color by 10%, doubling the percentage of grants and tripling the dollars to leaders of color since 2020. Our fight against poverty is deeply rooted in advancing equitable opportunities for all New Yorkers, and we’re committed to fueling the change we want to see. New York City’s largest poverty-fighting philanthropy, Robin Hood, is making strides in equitable grantmaking. Today, nearly 60% of our active grant dollars fund organizations led by people of color across NYC’s five boroughs. This intentional investment means more resources for community leaders who understand the lived experiences of New Yorkers facing poverty. “We know that organizations led by people of color, who reflect the communities they serve, drive better outcomes. Equitable grantmaking isn’t just right; it’s necessary,” said our CEO, Richard Buery. Today marks the first-ever global DAF Day – an exciting new giving day dedicated to unlocking the full potential of donor-advised funds (DAFs). Robin Hood is proud to be part of this movement as we continue our mission to fight poverty and build pathways to opportunity for millions of New Yorkers. This year, our Poverty Tracker report revealed a stark reality: the most significant year-over-year increase in poverty since the study began in 2012, with 500,000 more New Yorkers falling into poverty. Now, more than ever, your support is critical in helping us provide essential services, education, housing, and job opportunities to those who need it most. We aim to secure 20 DAF gifts by the end of today to fuel this vital work. If you have a DAF, will you join us in this fight? Recommend a grant today to immediately impact NYC’s most vulnerable communities. Start here: https://lnkd.in/ejjiZ9ka. For those who don’t yet have a DAF but want to learn more about how it can further their philanthropic goals while supporting Robin Hood’s mission, check out our resources or contact schilling@robinhood.org for more info.
