We break bread, isolation, and barriers of cost and stigma so that all people have access to eating disorder treatment.

About us

Rock Recovery is a Washington, DC area-based 501c(3) nonprofit that supports the journey to freedom from disordered eating through individual and community programs. We believe that freedom from disordered eating is possible, but all too often, specialized care is inaccessible. We are bridging the gap between the limited care that individuals typically receive and the robust care they need to break free. Rock Recovery is passionate about collaborating with other professionals, treatment centers, nonprofits and corporations in order to carry out our mission in the greater Washington, DC area and nationwide.

Too many young people don't get the support they need to have a healthy relationship with food, eating, and their bodies. As parents, we often hope for the best and trust that our kids will grow out of their struggles. In my experience, this is one struggle that rarely self-corrects. It's so worth it to de-stigmatize mental health and get the support we need!

Rock Recovery's teen Body Image therapy group starts on September 25th! Led by a therapist, this weekly group is designed to help high school aged teens navigate disordered eating recovery, gain practical recovery tips and skills, and feel comfortable in their own skin. We accept Carefirst/BlueCross BlueShield and Optum/UHC insurance, and offer sliding scale financial support so that finances are never a barrier to treatment. In recognition of #WorldMentalHealthDay, Rock Recovery founder Dr. Carylynn Larson has written an article on the power and importance of creating a workplace that provides for the mental health of its employees. It’s no secret that the number of people currently experiencing significant mental health challenges has increased dramatically over the years. Unfortunately, the workplace is often thought of as a place that can create more stress and damage one’s mental health. No matter where you work or how you spend your 9 to 5, you have the power to influence the mental health of the people around you, and help create an environment of trust, acceptance, and safety. Want to learn more about how you can build a workplace that prioritizes mental health and the benefits that come from doing so? Read Cary’s article now at the link below! https://lnkd.in/eDAeFbPi

Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of Atonement, is meant to be a day of reflection, and renewal. For those struggling with disordered eating, it can be a complex and challenging day due to the holiday’s emphasis on fasting. If you’re celebrating Yom Kippur this fall in recovery, it’s important to know that fasting is not the only way to observe this holiday. Jewish law actually encourages individuals to consider their own physical and mental health needs when deciding whether to fast, and it prioritizes life and health above religious ritual. Here are some non-fasting ideas to consider for observing Yom Kippur. Looking for more inspiration, or curious about the history of Yom Kippur? Check out our latest blog post, “Observing Yom Kippur in Eating Disorder Recovery”, written by Rock Recovery partner and eating disorder dietitian Jenna Albert, RDN, at https://lnkd.in/euWCQ-9Y
