When we asked site selectors late last year to name the best states for #manufacturing, the top vote-getters were South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Indiana and Texas. Eight months later, the Conway Data, Inc. Projects Database shows that all of these states cleaned up big time in landing factory investments during 2024; and none of these states show any signs of slowing down. Other hot states include Alabama, Ohio, Arizona and Virginia. The bottom line: companies want to add production capacity in locations where worker know-how can be found in abundance and where their capital will be treated well. As the gap between housing construction and demand continues to widen across the United States, many local communities are faced with housing shortages. In turn, homeowners and renters alike are experiencing significant affordability challenges. The affordable housing crisis impacts everyone by perpetuating inequities, diminishing quality of life of residents and threatening the economy by limiting equal opportunity access. Fifty percent of Centralina delegates indicated that their community experiences challenges in addressing affordable housing strategies and solutions. Acknowledging the supply gap and recognizing the limitations local governments have in solving the crisis on their own, the group discussed locally driven solutions that meet unique community needs.
