Expert Recruiter Building Senior Scientific Management, Business Development, and Executive teams aiding Drug Development

Today marks 23 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, a day that sparked a sense of duty in many young individuals who went on to serve in the armed forces. For some, this call to service shaped their entire careers, leading them to hit significant milestones like the 20-year mark. Reflecting on this, I think of my brother, a combat medic who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq in 2008 after joining the military in response to 9/11. His story is a reminder of the profound impact that pivotal moments can have on our paths. This post is not about seeking sympathy or exploiting a holiday for engagement. It's about recognizing the drive and determination that push us towards our goals. What was your defining moment that set you on your current career trajectory? Does that same motivation still guide you today? Are you focused on personal growth or on empowering those around you to reach their full potential? Take a moment to ponder these questions and consider how your journey and experiences shape not only yourself but those you work with. #CareerReflection #Motivation #PersonalGrowth

There are decisions in our lives that are uncomfortable in the moment, even momentary regrets, but those can be the moments that can positively define you in the future. Push through those uncomfortable moments, keep your moral compass at all times. It’s something you won’t regret in the long run. Try to give more than you receive without looking for reward. Be a Go-Giver. If you haven’t heard about the concept, check out the book by Bob Burg - spend an Audible credit on it. You won’t regret it.

Unlocking the Power of Soft Skills in Science! From effective communication to leadership and teamwork, cultivating soft skills is essential for success in research and beyond. But how can you cultivate these skills in your daily life? There are several effective methods: 🌟 Practice: Regular practice and repetition are essential for skill development. For instance, presenting your research findings to diverse audiences can enhance your communication abilities. 🌟 Training: Explore courses and programs focused on soft skills development. Platforms like MOOCs offer free courses in communication, leadership, and teamwork that can help you refine these skills. 🌟 Feedback: Seek constructive feedback from others on your interpersonal and behavioral skills. This input can pinpoint areas for improvement and guide your strategy for growth. 🌟 Modeling: Observe individuals known for their strong interpersonal skills and adopt some of their techniques into your own approach. 🌟 Reading: Delve into articles, books, biographies, videos, and other resources to deepen your understanding and enhance your skill set. Audiobooks and podcasts also offer valuable insights. 🌟 Experience: Engage in extracurricular activities or volunteer opportunities that provide hands-on experience in developing these skills. Volunteering not only enhances your resume but also expands your professional network. 🌟 Mentoring: Connect with mentors—whether in your field or other professionals—who can offer guidance and feedback. Seek their advice on navigating interpersonal challenges and commit to continuous self-improvement. Soft skills are increasingly crucial across various fields, including science. As automation advances, these skills—such as communication and teamwork—are invaluable, as they cannot be automated. By integrating technical expertise with strong interpersonal skills, researchers can foster collaboration, enhance self-leadership, and forge successful, sustainable careers.

I am curious how many hiring managers would interview a candidate without first reading their resume. There are exceptions from time to time, but I am looking for a general practice. Unfortunately, I have too often seen/heard people, especially in second (or later) interviews, reading the resumes of candidates for the first time during the interview without developing questions ahead of time. I wonder what the difference between this and the candidate reading the job description during the interview for the first time would be...
