The ability to learn from failure is important in every stage of a person’s career. The CyberKnights, a FIRST robotics team, faced setbacks after a poor early competition but rebuilt their robot in just nine days with the encouragement and support of their mentor, Scott Polverari, senior director, RTFlight at RTX. FIRST, our Connect Up strategic partner, challenges students to strengthen problem-solving and collaboration skills by building competition robots, with RTX employees mentoring around 500 teams worldwide. Today, and every day, we’re celebrating RTX mentors, like Scott, and other employee volunteers during #NationalMentoringDay. In a demonstration, RTX successfully coordinated an all-UAV airstrike. Collins Aerospace and Raytheon illustrated how launched effects can collaborate autonomously to detect threats, assess risks, and record data in real-time. Part of the US Army's EDGE24 experiment, marked a significant milestone for the RTX team to test their systems in a real-world environment. Collins Aerospace and Raytheon validated the potential for collaborative mission autonomy between launched effects at the US Army’s EDGE24. These advancements enabled launched effects to team up and execute threat detection missions, even when command links to human operators were severed. The RTX team demonstrated two solutions designed to find, fix, track, target, engage, and assess threats. Both solutions share data seamlessly, showcasing the advantages of modular open system architectures and mesh networks. Learn more: https://rtxcorp.co/3YnUQST #AUSA2024

Women represent about one-third of the STEM workforce in the U.S., according to the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics. So how do we break down gender stereotypes to help close this gap? We can start by introducing girls to women who work in these fields. Amanda Varricchio, lead test engineer for Pratt & Whitney, talks about being the only woman in her college mechanical engineering program and shares how she is now helping students at her all-girls high school develop a passion for STEM and robotics. We believe that securing the future of aerospace and defense starts with fostering curiosity for lifelong learning. By partnering with leading organizations that promote STEM skills, innovation and diverse thinking, we connect with students to broaden possibilities and create a diverse, career-ready talent pipeline for the future workforce.
