Despite caring for over 125 kids who desperately need to find foster homes, get medical treatment, and educational opportunities, the nonprofit has struggled with almost shutting down this year. They need us and I am scared that despite my best efforts, I am failing them just as America has already failed them. Ignore the donors who ignore you. You’re wasting time and missing other funders. “Stop calling, stop emailing, stop begging for one more meeting, and stop acting desperate. Dump them and move on,” says Liz Wendling. “Instead of chasing prospects who don’t want to be caught, invest your time in prospects who engage with you instead of run from you.” Because there’s a key for every lock. A donor for every #nonprofit. So move on. And remember this Navajo Proverb. ⤵ 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙣'𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙖 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙖𝙨𝙡𝙚𝙚𝙥. “The more you constantly chase to create an opportunity the less likely you are to create an opportunity — and the more likely they are to either become annoyed, angry, or just not respond at all,” says Scott Cantrell.  When to move on? Here are Wendling’s top five signs to stop chasing: 1️⃣ They’re not willing to set up another meeting.  2️⃣ They won’t ask or answer tough questions. 3️⃣ They’re not open to sharing information.   4️⃣ They don’t return calls and emails. 5️⃣ They’re not happy to see you. Sure, you can keep these cold prospects on your email newsletter and nurture them slowly via brand channels like social media. But there’s no marketing collateral, #fundraising campaign, or relentless persistence that will make someone care in the first place if they’re purposefully ignoring you. In short: You are the prize. Today is National Nonprofits Day and as someone who has spent his professional career in the nonprofit space, today is a great day! Our lives are what they are because of nonprofits, not just those that are in the headlines but also those behind the scenes doing good work every day. Whether you represent a cause, trade, profession, or anything in between, I salute you for everything you've done to make this world a better place.

Happy National Nonprofit Day! When I co-founded the Let's Learn Foundation in sixth grade, I could have never imagined it would grow to where it is today. To celebrate National Nonprofit Day, I'm reflecting on some of Let's Learn's "firsts." March 2019: Starting our fundraising efforts with our first lemonade stand. May 2019: Our very first book drive! July 2019: Our first school supply drive. December 2019: Our first Christmas project! September 2021: My first book donation as a high schooler (and to Belton ISD). September 2023: Our first major news feature in Forbes! December 2023: Our first session of the Vibrant Voices Project at Williamson County. I'm truly grateful to everyone who has supported Let's Learn in our mission to "Empower through Education," impacting over 13,000 students.
