A workforce training program on the South Side is connecting veterans with skilled jobs – and we got a behind-the-scenes look! United Way was thrilled to join our partners at the Chicago Federation of Labor for a tour of the impactful Utility Workers Military Assistance Program (UMAP). UMAP has trained 750+ veterans for sustainable careers in the utility sector. From a robust curriculum to 6-month hands-on internships, participants also receive wraparound support, including mentorship and mental health resources. The program is offered in partnership with UWUA Local 18007, Peoples Gas, City Colleges of Chicago, and Chicago Federation of Labor’s Workforce & Community Initiative. A perfect example of what’s possible when we come together to support our neighbors – and help them thrive. #LIVEUNITED
