  • Affordable Housing Month is our time to think big and imagine a bold future where everyone in our region has a safe and affordable place to call home, because the future of the Greater Sacramento Region is up to us. It’s time to unite as advocates and neighbors to demand that every city, and every community, invest in proven solutions that match the scale of the challenge. Because when we do, we can build a future for the Greater Sacramento Region rooted in justice, community, and possibility — and open the door to new possibilities for all of us. Together, as advocates and neighbors, residents, renters and landlords, homeowners and people experiencing homelessness, we have the power to unlock a new future and build a Greater Sacramento Region where we value everyone’s humanity, where we treat everyone with justice and dignity, and where everyone belongs. Throughout Affordable Housing Month, we will announce upcoming activities and highlight both the voices of affordable housing residents, and examples of the wide-ranging types of affordable homes built in our region. We will also announce details about our upcoming Affordable Housing Month Mixer and Bus Tour. In community, Jonathan Cook Executive Director

On Monday I was able to attend a tour organized by my friends and colleagues at Mutual Housing California. We toured properties providing affordable housing for seniors, LGBTQ+ people, folks previously experiencing homelessness, and low-income families. The first was the Wong Center at the Sacramento Railyards. This will provide 150 units of senior housing. It also will feature and celebrate the legacy of Chinese American culture and history in Sacramento. The second property we toured was Lavender Courtyard, a development providing affordable housing for #LGBTQ seniors. Additionally, 50% of the units are providing permanent supportive housing for folks previously experiencing homelessness, providing full supportive services offered on site. The last property we toured was Cornerstone, a new development opening in South Sacramento. We attended the ribbon cutting ceremony with California State Treasurer, Fiona Ma. This is a joint project with Mutual Housing California and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento. Providing affordable rental units and single-family homes for over 400 people. I’m incredibly proud of the work our partners are doing in Sacramento to center community, build affordable housing, and create thriving neighborhoods.
