Literacy changes everything. This year marks the 40th anniversary of our Adult Literacy program. Since 1984, we've offered free literacy tutoring for adults and helped more than 5,000 learners achieve their personal goals, build their confidence, and improve their employment opportunities. The library is here to support you in building a strong foundation for continued growth, at any age. “I started with the [library’s] literacy program five years ago. My goal was to read my mail, read a newspaper, and read books. I didn’t even know how to use a computer, but I know now. The literacy program helped and encouraged me to get my high school diploma. My goals have changed because I have more confidence in myself.” ”When I started, my goal was to complete my HiSET testing to get into community college so I could pursue nursing. It helped me better my educational foundation and my confidence. Now, I’m a student at Sacramento City College.” Learn more at https://bit.ly/4dYO0Zm

This summer, kids 18 and under can eat for free at 14 library locations. Starting June 18, lunch will be served Tuesdays through Fridays from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. (except on Juneteenth and Independence Day) Last year, the library served 11,421 lunches to kids throughout Sacramento County. During the summer, 80% of kids who get meals at school don’t have access to those meals over summer break. Lunch at the Library supports food equity in our community with meal sites within our neighborhoods.
