Emily has been a nurse at Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City for 19 years. Looking for a change, she wanted to find a job where she could still provide quality patient care and use the skills she’s learned while learning new ones. She knew other nurses who worked on the Hospital In Your Home team and enjoyed it, so she looked into the opportunity for herself. Hospital In Your Home gives eligible patients the opportunity to recover in the comfort of their own homes, equipping them with the technology to access their care team 24/7. Emily enjoys that the Hospital In Your Home team works around each patient’s schedule and personal preferences. “We do our best to plan visits around each patient’s normal sleep and wake schedule,” Emily said. “We can offer a home health aide to provide assistance with personal care and other patient needs. Hospital In Your Home is what I would want for myself.” Learn more about Hospital In Your Home: https://heyor.ca/PU77iO

  • Dale and Peggy considered themselves fortunate. They were married in 1965 and were active members of the Kansas City community for decades. In 2009, a stroke affected Peggy’s walking and balance. A few years later, she fell and required hospitalization, followed by rehabilitation therapy at Saint Luke’s. That’s when Peggy and Dale first met Brad Steinle, MD, a board-certified physician in physical medicine and rehabilitation. "He was very, very good at helping Peggy,” Dale said. “He told us what was going on without beating around the bush.” Peggy made progress in rehab, but after she’d been there for some time, Dr. Steinle recommended that she transfer back home and receive care there. For the next few years, Peggy was able to get around the house pretty well. In January 2022, at age 89, she passed away peacefully. After Peggy passed, Dale remembered the help she had received from Saint Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute, and decided he wanted to donate. "It was mainly because of Dr. Steinle,” he said. “I feel like he had a lot to do with giving Peggy more years. It’s a way to say thank you for how they helped Peggy, and also a way to help the Rehabilitation Institute continue these fine services that are available for patients.” Learn how you can make an impact in patients' lives: https://heyor.ca/Dz4owh

  • Saint Luke's Mid America Heart Institute and University of Missouri-Kansas City recently announced a four-year nationwide observational study of U.S. pregnant people living with cardiovascular disease. The program, called "Heart Outcomes in Pregnancy Expectations (HOPE) for Mom and Baby," is intended to better understand and combat maternal mortality and morbidity. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of maternal death, and those who survive often face lifelong disabilities. HOPE will study the care and outcomes of 1,000 pregnant individuals with heart disease to better understand patient characteristics, treatment, and organization of health care delivery that most influence these outcomes. KSHB / KMCI / The EW Scripps Company talked to Dr. Anna Grodzinsky, cardiologist and co-principal investigator of the study, and two local mothers who participated in the study's pilot phase.
