We're thrilled to learn that Las Adelitas has won a 2024 AIA Oregon Merit Award! Las Adelitas uses design strategies that foster communal resilience, including energy performance measures to handle Portland’s future climate, and a plaza and event spaces for people to congregate as the neighborhood evolves. Since opening in 2022, Las Adelitas has been a place of rebirth. Offering affordable rent and a variety of on-site services, the development seeks to combat the effects of neighborhood displacement while strengthening a vibrant community. Thanks to AIA Oregon for recognizing this work, and thanks to all of our partners in this development, especially Hacienda Community Development Corp. (CDC) and LMC Construction

We believe spatial justice is social justice is racial justice is climate justice.
About us
Salazar Architect collaborates with community partners to create space for climate justice and for the advancement of racial, gender, and economic equity in the built environment. We envision equitable, resilient, and just communities that are restorative and liberatory for those marginalized and harmed by racialized policies and practices; shaped by community voice and lived experience; and economically and culturally supportive of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, and other marginalized communities. Our reason for doing the work we do is not to achieve design awards, but to achieve social impact. Because of this mission, Salazar Architect is uniquely structured and organized around three Design Research Labs: Community Design, Wellbeing Design, and Sustainable Design. These three tenets form the core ethos of our work. Our designs are community-based, trauma-informed, and seek to bring tangible community benefits to their neighborhoods. Salazar Architect Inc. is a certified Oregon MBE / DBE firm, and Federal/California DBE. With offices located in Portland and Sacramento, we serve communities up and down the west coast.

🏳️🌈 Happy Pride!! 🏳️🌈 We're pleased to share that two Portland landmarks have been added to the National Register of Historic Places for LGBTQ+ historical significance. Congratulations to Kristen Minor for her work researching these sites and leading the nominations for Erv Lind Field and the Crystal Hotel– the second and third LGBTQ+ landmarks in Oregon, joining the first of Darcelle XV, also written by Kristen. We are honored to work with her on this grant-funded project to identify historically significant LGBTQ+ sites in the Portland region, adding to our collective history that values the stories, struggles, and spirits of diverse communities. https://lnkd.in/dQJVYZkz

We were in Talent, Oregon, last week to celebrate the progress made so far in rebuilding the community of Talent Mobile Estates through a groundbreaking ceremony. Congratulations to CASA of Oregon, Coalición Fortaleza, and all the partners and funders who are making it happen! We're inspired to see this community come together as Jackson County’s first resident-owned cooperative manufactured home park– an inspiring outcome after devastating wildfires that reflects the strength and resilience of this community.

What an honor to celebrate the opening of Mutual Housing on the Boulevard with our friends!
Well done! Wells Fargo welcomed 127 families to their new community today as Mutual Housing California completed "The Boulevard"- a beautifully architected design with innovative services for the formerly unhoused. It does take a village to create such a unique place. Public and private funding came together to create this incredible community - special thanks to Stephanie Nguyen Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency Sacramento Steps Forward Gustavo Velasquez Salazar Architect Inc. Thrilled we could be a part of this initiative.

It was an honor to speak about our work in southern Oregon with CASA of Oregon and Coalición Fortaleza at the National Community Reinvestment Coalition - NCRC #justeconomy Conference! We shared how #communityengagement shaped the development of Talent Mobile Estates and Summit Gardens as they rebuilt after the Almeda wildfire and how important it is to work with partners like Coalición Fortaleza and CASA of Oregon, who are truly uplifting their communities. Thanks for having us!

We’re pleased to announce that two of our major developments in Sacramento, Cornerstone, and Mutual on the Boulevard, have completed construction, allowing more than 200 households to move into the apartments and enjoy the safety and stability of a home. These spaces had a vibrancy, energy, and sense of community that was apparent even in the short time we spent there. The residents we met felt safe and proud of where they lived. We especially want to acknowledge the work that Mutual Housing California is doing to foster community and provide support to residents. Making the transition from homelessness to home is a difficult one to navigate, and we heard from several residents how Mutual has helped them. We’re honored to have designed the buildings that serve as a foundation for this impactful change. Building images © Lara Swimmer/Esto https://lnkd.in/eRPNDhdp
