We are united in a common goal to provide the safety and welfare to the citizens of Salt Lake County

About us

The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office operates two correctional facilities; the Salt Lake County Metro Jail and the Oxbow Jail Facility. Both jails are highly efficient, designed to operate at low costs with an abundance of programs that minimize overcrowding issues while creating an approach that reduces recidivism. Salt Lake County’s Public Safety Bureau prides itself on meeting the diverse challenges of effective crime prevention by transitioning between law enforcement authority, prisoner management, government security and public service. In addition to our Corrections Bureau and Public Safety Bureau; the Sheriff’s Office is also home to Search and Rescue, the Mounted Posse, Human Resources and Fiscal Divisions. With over 1,100 employees and volunteers, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office takes pride in its role as a leader in public safety and community service. • 🐾 Making a Difference! 🐾 Today, our incredible cadet class, PSA #42, teamed up with Salt Lake County Animal Services for a heartwarming public service project! 🐕🐈⬛ The cadets rolled up their sleeves to clean and organize the outside barn and storage areas, making sure our furry friends have everything they need when they arrive. This project not only strengthened their bond but also highlighted their commitment to serving our community—whether it’s protecting people or caring for animals. 💙 Thank you to Salt Lake County Animal Services for welcoming us and for all the amazing work you do! #CommunityService #SLSheriff

  • 🍳 Cooking Up Change at the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office 👩🍳 Our Programs Division recently hosted a hands-on cooking demonstration, where students had the opportunity to learn how to prepare fresh, nutritious meals from scratch. This initiative not only teaches valuable culinary skills but also provides critical education for the inmates, empowering them with tools necessary for success. #SkillsForLife #SLSheriff

  • We love when we are given the opportunity to connect with our community. This week, we had the privilege of giving a jail tour to students from Corner Canyon High School. These tours help educate them about law enforcement, corrections, and the judicial system, while also offering a deeper understanding of who we are at the Sheriff’s Office including the wide range of career opportunities available.
