    SAVE THE DATE! Samaritan House’s Women Against Violence (WAV) is proud to announce that actress, survivor and author April Hernandez- Castillo will be the keynote speaker at the Tenth Annual WAV Luncheon that will take place on Friday, October 11 from 11:30 – p.m. at the Westin Virginia Beach Town Center. Best known for her riveting performance as “Eva” in the hit movie, Freedom Writers, starting Hilary Swank, April Hernandez Castillo was living the Hollywood dream. She started on tv shows such as; Person of Interest, Law & Order: SVU, Dexter, and New Amsterdam to name a few. However, behind the glitz and glamor was a woman dealing secretly with a traumatic past. April’s inspirational story of resilience, overcoming adversity, and choosing to move forward no matter what happens in life is a message that resonates with audiences across the globe. April intimately describes how she was able to take tragedies and turn them into triumphs. From growing up in the tough streets of the Bronx during the Crack Epidemic Era, to being in an abusive relationship as a teenager, to almost taking her own life, April truly understands what it feels like when the odds are up against you. We are currently seeking well-qualified candidates to fill two new positions - Mission Advancement Officer and Annual Fund Manager. - The Mission Advancement Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of high-tier donors. Will solicit gifts from these donors and steward their relationship with the agency. The Mission Advancement Officer (MAO) will also work to identify, qualify, and cultivate new major gift prospects. - The Annual Fund Manager will have primary responsibility for ensuring a successful annual fund and related campaigns and appeals. This position oversees the donor database and donor acknowledgements, helps establish and implement data-entry policies and procedures to ensure data consistency and quality, and leads efforts to develop philanthropic strategies, including donor/prospect research.     All month long, Samaritan House will be celebrating Women's History Month, by highlighting the women who lead the agency and help members of our community free themselves from domestic and sexual violence, human trafficking and homelessness. Today, we are highlighting Meredith! Meredith currently serves Samaritan House as the Crisis Services Supervisor, managing the Intake team and Victim Advocates. Prior to this, she was the Transitional Housing Supervisor at the Housing Resource Center, overseeing the family shelter. Meredith's educational background is in Addiction and Human Services with a B.A. in Behavioral Psychology and more than 13 years in the field. Thank you Meredith!

    All month long, Samaritan House will be celebrating Women's History Month, by highlighting the women who lead the agency and help members of our community free themselves from domestic and sexual violence, human trafficking and homelessness. Today, we are highlighting Kara! Kara is the Program Director for "The Hallow," our new shelter for trafficked youth. She ensures all regulations are followed and operations run smoothly. She dots every ‘I’ and crosses every ‘T’. We celebrate Kara for her hard work and as an example to her colleagues of what it takes to lead a new and innovative initiative.

Today, we are highlighting Kimberly! Kimberly started her 10-year journey with Samaritan House in the Children’s Department and then moved to the housing stabilization department as a Case manager. Today she is the Emergency Housing Manager Supervisor and oversees all the hard-working case managers who provide daily support to our program participants. Thank you, Kimberly, for all you do. We celebrate you!

She is a leader and an example of what it takes to work with program participants in a caring and unbiased environment. She is compassionate and supportive of all of the Program Managers and their teams. We couldn’t do what we do without her leadership, so today we celebrate LaShonda!

Today, we are celebrating Theresa Lindsey, our Human Resources and Operations Director. For 20 years, Theresa has tirelessly worked to ensure staff has a safe and comfortable place to work. Whether she’s ordering supplies for one of our emergency shelters or meeting one-on-one with a staff member in need, she always steps up and offers her support.  We celebrate Theresa!
