Fighting Hunger... Feeding Hope

About us

FIGHTING HUNGER AND FEEDING HOPE IN SAN ANTONIO AND SOUTHWEST TEXAS. The San Antonio Food Bank takes pride in fighting hunger, feeding hope in our 16 county service area. We believe that no child should go to bed hungry, adults should not have to choose between a hot meal and utilities, nor a senior sacrifice medical care for the sake of a meal. Founded in 1980, The San Antonio Food Bank has quickly grown to serve 58,000 individuals a week in one of the largest service areas in Texas. Our focus is for clients to have food for today but to also have the resources to be self-sufficient in the future. Fighting hunger is our number one priority but we also serve to educate and provide assistance in many other ways. We achieve this through our variety of programs and resources available to families, individuals, seniors, children, and military members in need. The work to end hunger in Texas is a joint effort with anti-hunger champions from all communities. Hunger in our communities impacts us all – regardless of race or gender. That's why it's important for the San Antonio Food Bank to commit to equal-opportunity hiring practices. Hey neighbors, it's HOT out! ☀️ Whether you're volunteering at a distribution with us or just out and about, we remind you to stay safe during this heat advisory. Know the signs! Headache, fatigue, and confusion are among the red flags you may be developing a heat-related illness. It's important to remember to drink plenty of water, wear the appropriate clothing, take frequent breaks out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Need a place to stay cool? The City of San Antonio has a map of cool places you can catch a break ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ggZPShUa

"I didn't know I had a green thumb! My grandmother is a horticulturalist she taught me everything I know about our plants. And now the same plants and herbs that grow on my grandmother's ranch are the same plants and herbs that grow on my ranch. Now that I am volunteering for the San Antonio Food Bank. Harvesting at Mission San Juan is my favorite volunteer opportunity. The food that has grown here immediately goes back to the community that needs it most." - Maria P Hang out in the garden with volunteers like Maria! ➡️ https://bit.ly/3YPwfqE

Duane, an Army veteran, comes from a long family history of servicemen who have bravely fought to protect our country, exemplifying the hard-working and selfless individuals who defend our freedom. Duane was honorably discharged and post active service, Duane’s relentless pain limited his ability to work full days. As the struggle to maintain steady employment took its toll, he found himself facing homelessness. Duane states, “The San Antonio Food Bank is the only help that’s been constant for me… They support me and many other veterans struggling with hunger and homelessness.” In Military City USA, San Antonio stands proud as home to one of the nation’s largest active and retired military populations, with 159,000 veterans in Bexar County alone. While it is our honor to serve those who bravely served our nation, we firmly believe that no veteran or active service member should struggle with hunger. Your support helps veterans, like Duane, combat hunger. Donate today at safoodbank.org/donate 🍎
