Hey neighbors, it's HOT out! ☀️ Whether you're volunteering at a distribution with us or just out and about, we remind you to stay safe during this heat advisory. Know the signs! Headache, fatigue, and confusion are among the red flags you may be developing a heat-related illness. It's important to remember to drink plenty of water, wear the appropriate clothing, take frequent breaks out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Need a place to stay cool? And now the same plants and herbs that grow on my grandmother's ranch are the same plants and herbs that grow on my ranch. Now that I am volunteering for the San Antonio Food Bank. Duane, an Army veteran, comes from a long family history of servicemen who have bravely fought to protect our country, exemplifying the hard-working and selfless individuals who defend our freedom. Duane was honorably discharged and post active service, Duane’s relentless pain limited his ability to work full days. As the struggle to maintain steady employment took its toll, he found himself facing homelessness. Duane states, “The San Antonio Food Bank is the only help that’s been constant for me… They support me and many other veterans struggling with hunger and homelessness.” In Military City USA, San Antonio stands proud as home to one of the nation’s largest active and retired military populations, with 159,000 veterans in Bexar County alone.
