Fighting Hunger... Feeding Hope
About us
FIGHTING HUNGER AND FEEDING HOPE IN SAN ANTONIO AND SOUTHWEST TEXAS. The San Antonio Food Bank takes pride in fighting hunger, feeding hope in our 16 county service area. We believe that no child should go to bed hungry, adults should not have to choose between a hot meal and utilities, nor a senior sacrifice medical care for the sake of a meal. Founded in 1980, The San Antonio Food Bank has quickly grown to serve 58,000 individuals a week in one of the largest service areas in Texas. Our focus is for clients to have food for today but to also have the resources to be self-sufficient in the future. Fighting hunger is our number one priority but we also serve to educate and provide assistance in many other ways. We achieve this through our variety of programs and resources available to families, individuals, seniors, children, and military members in need. The work to end hunger in Texas is a joint effort with anti-hunger champions from all communities. Hunger in our communities impacts us all – regardless of race or gender. That's why it's important for the San Antonio Food Bank to commit to equal-opportunity hiring practices. Did you know? In a unique partnership with the National Park Service, the San Antonio Food Bank cultivates 45 acres of farmland at Mission San Juan, with an additional 5 acres dedicated to a historic demonstration garden. Using irrigation from the 300-year-old acequia, the farm replicates traditional agricultural methods once used by Mission inhabitants, preserving the region’s rich farming heritage while producing fresh, nutritious food for our neighbors. "I have lived in Comfort, Texas for the past 30 years, and this is my first time at a food distribution. I just want to say thank you for this opportunity. Thank you to all the volunteers who are out here helping—your kindness and hard work mean so much. All this produce will make a perfect caldo soup! It’s a blessing to know about all this food being distributed today. Keeps my family happy and healthy. Thank you for thinking about our Comfort community." - Yolanda We serve 29 counties, including those in rural communities. See our service territory map and learn how we can help at safoodbank.org. 🍎

"Volunteering with the San Antonio Food Bank is always rewarding, especially seeing the smiles on people’s faces. Today, we’re providing nutritious staples like green peas, pinto beans, and mac and cheese—ensuring families have access to quality food. It’s an honor to give back to my community and support the Food Bank’s mission of nourishing those in need." - Elizabeth We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the S.L. Gimbel Foundation, a component fund at the Inland Empire Community Foundation (IECF), for their transformative grant, which will improve the quality of food distributions throughout the Food Bank's service area. This critical support ensures that neighbors facing hunger receive vital proteins and nutritious shelf-stable food that support healthy home meals. The San Antonio Food Bank shares in IECF's values of integrity, inclusion, excellence, collaboration, and knowledge. We look forward to a positive, meaningful community impact thanks to IECF's partnership, generosity, and trust.
