Congrats to Amanda Clinton, RN who received the DAISY award for extraordinary nurses in a celebration last week. Amanda joined the Saratoga Hospital team in 2021 as a Patient Care Technician at Wilton Medical Arts Urgent Care. She transitioned to the ED RN residency in 2022. Here is what Amanda’s nominator had to say: “It was my first time ever breaking a bone. I fell outside of my house and was transported to the hospital. I was so scared from the moment that I entered. I was in so much pain, I could not stop crying. My nurse was very kind to me. She spoke with me at my bedside as people poked and prodded at my injury. She came to check on me frequently, always offering to get me anything that I needed. When it came time to fix my injury I was shaking and feeling the pain again. My previous medication had worn off. Amanda was preparing medicine to help with my pain as the team was getting ready to fix my injury. She advocated for me as they were starting to touch and move me without having the medication. She asked them to wait until I was ready. After I received the medication and they started to set my injury, she held my hand the entire time and talked to me through the entire procedure. She brought me everything that I needed afterwards Ginger ale, saltines, and even socks, when she noticed that my feet were cold. She was very gentle, considerate, and thoughtful. She could even tell how impacted I was by the medications that they gave me. We are deeply saddened by the passing of John Hendrickson, a true friend of Saratoga Hospital and a cherished member of our community. John’s unwavering support and dedication to both the hospital and the foundation have left an incredible mark, one that will be remembered by many. The Backstretch Clinic, in particular, stands as a testament to his deep compassion for the backstretch workers. Without John’s generosity and heartfelt commitment, this vital resource would not have been possible. His legacy of kindness and dedication to improving the lives of others will be cherished by all who knew him. During this difficult time, our thoughts are with John’s family and friends. His spirit of community and care for those who care for our horses will continue to inspire us all, living on through the Backstretch Clinic and his enduring support for our workforce.
