Wilsonville TOD is underway and Sawtooth’s Waterproofing Division flew through this underslab install at the elevator pit with Tremco Commercial Sealants & Waterproofing Paraseal LG. We come back to tie in the walls in a few weeks. There is more below-grade waterproofing to be completed at the foundations, planters, etc. along with the MEP firestopping scope later down the road. Yesterday was day 1 for Sawtooth Firestopping at the new BSU Residence Hall and we are ready to get down to business! We are ecstatic to be working alongside Layton Construction and helping bring this building to life.

Employee Spotlight: Junior Bamba Junior has worked for Sawtooth for 6 years and is currently the Expansion Joint Cover division Superintendent. After 4 years of being in the Military, he moved to Oregon to be closer to family. He had some family who was working for Sawtooth, that introduced him to Tyler, who then hired him. Junior started at Sawtooth in the below-grade waterproofing division but soon found his calling in the EJC division where he has worked his way up the ranks. His favorite part about working for Sawtooth is the camaraderie and getting to perfect his craft installing Expansion Joint Covers. Some of the most memorable jobs that he has worked on are the Boise Airport, Oregon Supreme Court, and all of the PDX Data Centers in Hermiston. His current job you may be able to see him on is the Lake Oswego Recreation Aquatics Center! When Junior isn’t at work he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking and barbecuing, target shooting, and Jiu Jitsu.      

Last week during Sawtooth's monthly company meeting, the safety topic was fall protection. Nick Goen with Werner and ANDY JACOBS from White Cap came out and put on a fall protection training focusing on tripods. These tripods are imperative to safety when working in confined spaces. For Sawtooth, we use these when waterproofing the inside of water tanks and silos. From mock-ups in Oregon to the real deal in Idaho. To ensure quality and smooth installations, we often will make a mock-up of the field conditions so that everyone on the project can get hands-on and be on the same page before the first day of installation. Will B. and his crew recently started installing the GCP PP300R, Bituthene 4000, Bituthene Liquid Membrane, and Injectable Waterstop for Big-D Construction at our project in Idaho. Next up will be the full under slab PP300R waterproofing system, tying in with all pile caps, elevator pits, etc. Last comes the Bituthene 4000 system at the exterior perimeter foundation walls below grade with Hydroduct 220 and 2” insulation outboard. We recently completed a similar project for Big-D Construction in Oregon and are excited to continue our partnership on this one with Andy Stewart, Derek Phelps, and Tyler Miller. 

Waterproofing Division Manager Dylan Carlson, and some of his guys took a quick trip down to GCP headquarters in Santa Ana California! They attended the 2024 GCP PrePruf West Coast Refresher Training where they learned about the PrePruf waterproofing system. The day started in the classroom where they learned about the product, application, and details for the system. Then they followed up with the hands-on portion where they went over the details of prepping and applying the material. In addition to this, they learned a ton about the history of waterproofing and how GCP has grown and the culture that makes them the amazing company that they are today. We would like to give a big shout out to Denise White, Dan Scherber, Don Maroney Jr, Chad Hinshaw, Elizabeth Nicholson, Kevin Humphrey as well as all of the other GCP and CertainTeed Companies people who made this training possible! A few weeks ago, you may have seen a post about our guys waterproofing a PGE vault that said we would be completing the garage ramp coating with the same MFR, Soprema. The time came and our traffic coating division has been putting in some late-night hours at our DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital project for Skanska. The swing shift hours ensure quality finishes with adequate cure time without taking away access to other trades during regular working hours and impacting the schedule. This application was composed of SOPREMA USA Alsan RS System (fully reinforced) and finished with an HT topcoat. I think it's safe to say the guys have been knocking this one out of the park.
