A must-read from Jeff St. John on how DERs (and microgrids) stepped up in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl - and how they could, and should, be doing even more to provide resilience in the near future. "These distributed energy resources — DERs, in utility parlance — could play a much more central role in how utilities handle the ravages of climate change–induced storms, energy experts say. What’s more, unlike emergency generators, they can also support the grid in the day to day." https://lnkd.in/eF5CC8c8

Our own Samantha Reifer was featured in this terrific state-of-the-industry article from Microgrid Knowledge, sharing her insights on pressing topics - including one particularly fast-growing market segment: "New demand from bridge power/grid constrained sites is already doing an immeasurable amount to drive microgrid growth. The question will be how quickly can our industry scale to support it..." https://lnkd.in/e8AwAnGk

A new modeling study from UT Austin estimates that the optimal use of customer-sited solar and batteries could cut utility costs by 40% (!!) by managing demand peaks and reducing stress on the grid. Call them "non-wires alternatives," call them "virtual power plants," whatever - it's a much-needed solution to fast-rising electricity rates that we can and should harness ASAP. https://lnkd.in/dinpxAVT
