Check out this Renewable Thermal Collaborative case study on our groundbreaking project for Amond World, a state-of-the-art, fully off-grid cold storage facility for the Central Valley's almond farmers! It's a great example of how microgrids enable companies to "BYOP" (Bring Your Own Power) in the face of years-long waits for grid connections or capacity upgrades - while simultaneously reducing costs and emissions.
We are pleased to announce the publication of our newest case study on the partnership between RTC Solutions Provider Scale Microgrids, a vertically-integrated distributed energy company, and Origo Cold Storage to build a microgrid at Amond World, a new 500,000 square foot refrigerated cold storage facility in the Madera Airport Industrial Park in California’s Central Valley. Scale Microgrids used a “microgrid-as-a-service” financing model to design, build, own, operate, and maintain the off-grid microgrid that provides the facility with electricity for refrigeration of almonds and other crops from local farmers. The microgrid includes a 1,200 kilowatt (kW) solar photovoltaic (PV) array, a 1,200 kW battery storage unit, and two 1,200 kW natural gas-powered dispatchable generators. Download the case study to find out more about how the project started, what it took to bring it to fruition, key outcomes, and lessons learned: https://lnkd.in/dkQbR979 #microgrid #renewablethermalenergy #distributedenergy #coldstorage #foodindustry #agricultureindustry #thoughtleadership #casestudy

PG&E has warned that it may call what could be the largest wildfire-prevention public safety power shutoff (PSPS) event ever over the next three days, with PSPSes "likely" for vast swathes of its territory due to dry conditions and high winds. Check their map to see if your area could be affected - and reach out if you want to discuss how Scale can help protect your organization against future outages. https://lnkd.in/efqNfTi3

Here's another impactful way to ensure DERs help provide resilience when and where it's most needed. Take 5 minutes for the link below, and thanks Arushi Sharma Frank for getting the word out about this!
PSA: Please spend 5 minutes to help me, and my community friends and family in New Orleans, ensure pain and suffering from climate events is minimized and loss of life from a lack of resilient shelters in the city is stamped out in its entirety. Thank you. Comment here: https://lnkd.in/ewhx3mDb ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Solar-Battery VPP and Microgrids for New Orleans: I have a new friend. Her name is Sweta Chakraborty, PhD. She keeps reminding me we don't have time, and I keep saying this same thing everywhere I go when I talk about distributed energy : clean power production and storage, next to power users. Lots of it, as fast as possible. Every hurricane, every wildfire is an in-your-face reminder that we can fix the transmission grid all day (well, for decades), but people need survival tools now. Today, I did my first post on the We Don't Have Time climate advocacy platform to talk about #NewOrleans #VPP #Microgrid opportunities that the city can approve to kick-start more #DERs for #stormsurvival asap. https://lnkd.in/eVM5QVCB I want to thank the residents of New Orleans, Louisiana, many of whom I spoke to in addition to the community orgs I worked with to draft this proposal for City Council review at a climate hearing tomorrow. Here it is: https://lnkd.in/eR_AGbW2 And, I want to ask you in your personal, professional, social club, intellectual hub, nonprofit, academic, or any other capacity, to submit a 3-sentence comment TODAY (deadline is 10 am CT tomorrow). After the shocking scenes of Hurricane Helene's destruction, reading about the challenges of restoring electricity to some affected areas is an incredibly sobering reminder of how important energy is to our lives - and how fragile the grid can be in the face of climate change. We're obviously big believers in the importance of clean energy-powered resilience as part of the solution, and we're big fans of The Footprint Project's rapid response approach to helping communities #BuildBackGreener with mobile solar and battery systems. Check out their homepage to learn about how they've provided emergency clean power access to over 50,000 people to date, and how they're helping on the ground right now in North Carolina: https://lnkd.in/dJBH8RF

California is leading the US in battery installations, and businesses looking to get on top of fast-rising electricity costs should get in on the action. Even without a solar installation, batteries can save hundreds of thousands of dollars a year by shifting when your business uses electricity - here's how it works, and how Scale can help make it easy. https://lnkd.in/eRCCWYXD

Between heatwaves and wildfires, resilience has been top of mind for Southern California in recent weeks. Our co-founder Tim Hade was recently joined by Leah Stokes on the Institute for Local Self-Reliance podcast to talk about our efforts to build a new, community-centric approach to regional resilience in Santa Barbara County - an area with unique geographic challenges, as well as a unique opportunity to serve as a model of clean energy resilience for similar areas around the country and around the world. Tune in for an important and thought-provoking conversation! https://lnkd.in/ep-bQnre
