Terence Finn (SCALE Healthcare) led the last workshop at the SCALE Healthcare 2024 Leadership Conference, "Unlocking the Power of Data Analytics in Healthcare." In it, Terence shared statistics on the undeniable value of data analytics and the challenge of implementing an effective data analytics strategy. Turning the meeting from a workshop to a roundtable, the attendees talked about their experience and learnings from developing analytics capabilities. Some of the insights shared included: - The importance of data governance: One incorrect data point can cause reports to lose all credibility. Therefore, having a data quality process that includes structural and semantic data validation is critical. - The impact of EMR data entry processes: Non-standard methods and poor process enforcement in EMRs lead to data that is hard to benchmark or provides incorrect insights. - Focusing on just a few metrics: Although many tools provide endless numbers of reports, picking the 5-10 KPIs that matter to your business is important. - Add predictive metrics to your retrospective data: After determining the most critical KPIs for your business, future casting can help you proactively capture opportunities. Terence wrapped up the session by highlighting SCALE's efforts to make this journey easier by providing Analytics and Data Warehouse as a Service (AaaS and DWaaS) offerings that consolidate data from multiple systems, conduct data validations, and provide intuitive dashboards. These offerings allow companies to move from data to insight cost-effectively and build a foundation for predictive analytics, automation, and AI.

The SCALE Healthcare Leadership Conference featured many insightful workshops throughout the day. The workshop "Payer Contracting Strategy," led by Margaret C. Braxton (SCALE Healthcare) and Patrick Kiss, CPA (Growth Orthopedics), explored the essential role of payer contracting in the processes of mergers, acquisitions, and consolidations. It began with the identification of merger opportunities and an evaluation of assets based on contracted rates, contract language, and payer notification requirements, ensuring compliance with proprietary and confidential payer contracts during due diligence. Margaret and Patrick discussed the requirements for change of ownership, including payer notifications, necessary documentation, and timelines for contract renegotiation. They also reviewed federal and state compliance requirements, with specific considerations for Commercial, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid lines of business. Following the transaction, the workshop addressed contract integration, focusing on aligning and combining individual contracts into group agreements. Finally, they outlined strategies for structuring healthcare assets to promote sustained success and growth in a competitive market.

SCALE Healthcare's 2024 Conference panel on relationships between Health Systems and MSO's, moderated by Lynda Mischel (SCALE Healthcare) and panelists Jason Howard (MedQuest), Angela Humphreys (Bass, Berry & Sims), Lori Herndon (AtlantiCare), and Linda Caccamo, CRNA, DNP, MS, MBA, MHA, (Somnia Anesthesia) had great insights including: Many hospitals and health systems are exploring new ways to partner with MSOs in order to expand services and improve patient experience. Bringing joint ventures or other affiliations to fruition requires persistence and patience with the broad group of stakeholders at hospitals and health systems. Once a win/win relationship is established, programs between MSOs and hospitals can be very successful and sustainable.
