The School Meals for All CT Coalition is conducting a brief survey to gather parent & caregiver input and stories regarding the importance of increasing access to free school meals for all students. Advocacy from those impacted most is crucial to shaping the future of school nutrition and ensuring that every child has access to nutritious meals. Our goal is to build a bank of stories and individuals who will speak to their experience and their hopes for accessible school meals for all CT children. If your school serves breakfast, it will be available for purchase. No-cost breakfast and lunch remain for eligible students. 🤔 Why the change? #schoolmealsforall really does mean meals for all…schools would have even more resources to continue bringing culturally affirming menu items to their students! Check out this Pernil, arroz con gandules, and roasted plantains served in New London Public Schools in Connecticut. This traditional Puerto Rican dish of slow-roasted pork shoulder was developed by two staff members of New London Public Schools food services. The pork is sourced from Secchiaroli Farm in Waterford, CT, which is also where the school cafeteria's compost is sent. #Connecticut's tax revenue team is forecasting an extra $2.5 billion coming into the state from now through the middle of 2028 - $1.3 billion more than initially anticipated. But there appear to be no plans to share the wealth with programs that need it most. Feeding all CT students should absolutely be a priority. The funding needed to continue no-cost breakfast 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝟎.𝟒𝟓% of that $2.5 billion.
