🎙How do you turn ideas into assets? Unpacking Innovation on "Understanding IP Matters" I recently had a great chat about this with Bruce Berman on his podcast. While Innovation, AI, and Intellectual Property are embedded in my day-to-day, I don’t often get the chance to really dive into these topics. So, when my long-time friend and IP expert, Bruce, invited me to kick off the fourth season of his podcast ‘Understanding IP Matters,’ how could I say anything but yes?! 📖 20+ years ago, I wrote a chapter for his book 'From Ideas to Assets.' This conversation felt like coming full circle—and let me tell you, the podcast was more fun than I could have imagined. We explored some BIG topics in just 40 minutes: 🎓 The art of identifying and training inventors (4:00) ⚙️ Innovation as a repeatable process—beyond the ‘lightning strike’ (10:28) 🔐 Prototypes, commercialization, and protecting ideas (14:24)  🤖 AI as a partner in the creative process (17:18) 🏠 About Science House (30:50) 🌐 Bringing innovation beyond traditional R&D (34:16) We even tackled innovation through the eyes of kids. 👀 (37:16) 💬 How has AI changed your innovation process? What’s the biggest challenge you’re facing with innovation these days? Have any questions about the innovation process? Drop it in the comments—I’d love to hear your thoughts, or follow Science House to stay updated on the latest insights. #AIandInnovation #IPManagement #sciencehouse #ipmatters #TechLeadership #FutureofWork #IDiyas

Word Golf: All the Vexations of Word Games Plus the Frustration of Golf Are you good at word games? Do you enjoy golf? Do you want to learn more about AI? If you said yes to any of the above, then you are going to love the new AI game called Word Golf. It combines word knowledge and some friendly competition. Fair warning – it is addictive! 😉 Word Golf ⛳️ is a game built on vector representations of words, which are a foundation of AI Large Language Models. The game involves getting from one word (the ‘tee’) to a target word (the ‘hole’) in the fewest shots possible. Each swing has you picking from a list of five candidate words. Some will help you, others will land you in the rough. This game will test your mind as you work to understand the connections between words and build your vocabulary, while also growing your understanding of how AI creates these connections to build the LLM’s we are all learning about. This definitely beats watching endless YouTube videos on the topic! Ready to play🏌️♀️Word Golf? If you want to try the game, we are currently hosting demos in small private Zoom sessions so everyone can get a chance to play – reach out for an invite. We will be holding five sessions over the next week. Science House team members will show you how the game works, and then challenge you to a round of nine holes. #WordGolf #AI Follow #ScienceHouse to learn more about our other AI applications.

No Squirrels Were Hurt During this Contest 🦮 Thanks to everyone who voted in our latest Canine Detective contest! Hundreds of votes were cast to decide – ‘If you were a squirrel, this is the dog you don't want to see.’  Those votes ranked the 24 dogs in the squirrel 🐿️ hunt, and we appreciate the many people who put their time into indicating their preferences and providing feedback. After much running and chasing, three winners emerged: 🥇 Gold Medal – Bella, a Golden Retriever, followed up her 8th place finish in ‘Cutest Dog’ by tossing out her headshot and replacing it with a photo of her standing tall on a boat 🚤 and projecting confidence. Voters felt the energy and speed, rewarding her with the gold medal! 🥈 Silver Medal – Moji is a Black German Shepherd from Colorado, whose owner confirms that her yard is completely – ahem – squirrel free. :) 🥉 Bronze Medal – Stanley was a late entry Rottweiler, but the long legs and alert pose were enough to immediately worry almost all voters. Rounding out the Top Ten: 4. Alex is a mixed breed with a healthy dose of Whippet, providing enough acceleration to scare even Rocky the Flying Squirrel. And baring his teeth isn’t making the squirrels relax either! 5. Henry, a rescue from the streets of Arkansas, was back for his second contest. A fifth place finish here and a fourth place finish in ‘Cutest Dog’ was proof that it is possible to be both cute and terrifying at the same time – even when using the same photo!  6. Cabo, a Shiba Inu, shifted from a headshot in the Cuteness contest (10th place finish) to a body shot for the ‘Squirrels’ contests that landed him in 6th. 7. Blue is a Treeing Walker Coonhound. And for this Squirrel contest, the emphasis is on ‘Treeing.’ 8. Ollie is a Rat Terrier, which is a mash up of a bunch of dog breeds, all of which are fast or love to chase small animals. 9. Penny was a bronze medal winner in the ‘Cutest Dog’ contest with her relaxed pose on a bunch of blankets, but swapped out that photo for a shot that emphasized Penny’s alertness and capacity for speed. 10. Murphy is a 99.6% Brittany Spaniel that hails from New Hampshire. Squirrels really need to watch out when Murphy’s half-brother Quinn joins in the hunt. If you missed the contest, don’t worry! Another one just started and it asks voters to decide:  ‘You’re on the couch and the movie has started, which dog do you want to cuddle with?’  🛋️ 🐩  If you already have a username and login from the previous contest, you can use that to vote in this new contest. If you don’t have a login, reach out in the comments below. Do you have puppy photos? Pictures of your dog being goofy or getting into trouble? Drop them in a comment below! Do you like word games? Hollywood Hounds: Discover Your Dog’s Celebrity Lookalike Ever meet someone and they say “wow, you look just like [insert celebrity name here].” Dogs have celebrity lookalikes too!! Some of our popular dogs in Canine Detective look like celebrity dogs. Even if you don’t know the celebrity dog itself, you may know its owner.  Want to see what celebrity dog your pooch looks like? Canine Detective to the rescue! Simply drop a picture of your dog in the comments below. After determining the breed composition of your dog, Canine Detective can then apply an algorithm 🧮 to find the closest dog match from your dog to famous dogs with matching breed types. For example, we ran the algorithm on Bella, the 8th place finisher in our recent ‘Cuteness’ contest. Bella was a strong match with Opie, who belongs to country singer 🎶 Ashley McBryde. Bella also strongly matches with Enzo from the movie ‘The Art of Racing in the Rain’ – a dog that loves racing in cars as much as Bella likes racing in power boats. 🚤 The second place finisher in our ‘Cuteness’ contest was a Saint Bernard named Margorie, who matched up perfectly (98% match strength) with the star from the 1992 comedy ‘Beethoven.’ The fifth place finisher from that contest was Chewie, a Border Terrier. Chewie matched at 83% with Cameron Diaz’s dog Fluffy from the 1998 classic ‘There’s Something About Mary.’ Want  to have more fun with dogs and learn more? Participate in our dog voting 🗳️ in one of our contests. If you already have a username and login you can use that. If you don’t have a login, reach out in the comments below and we will get you set up. Do you have puppy photos? Pictures of your dog being goofy or getting into trouble? Drop them in a comment below! Want to learn more about our AI Rapid Prototyping Platform that created Canine Detective? The ‘Cutest of the Cute’ 🐶 Thanks to everyone who voted in our ‘Cutest Dog’ contest. More than 1,000 votes were cast! Those votes ranked the 37 dogs in the hunt, and we appreciate the many people who put their time into indicating their preferences and helping us to improve the software. The high level of cuteness made for some tough voting choices, but in the end three winners emerged:  🥇Gold Medal – Chester, a Norwich Terrier. He’s a little guy, and there is just something about him that makes you want to scoop him up into your arms. He rapidly ascended into the Top Ten, and stayed there for the duration. 🥈 Silver Medal – Margorie, a Saint Bernard, was a late entry into the contest but quickly rose up the ranks with an impressive 43 wins and 5 losses. She is five months old and heading for 120 pounds! 🥉 Bronze Medal – Penny, a German Shorthaired Pointer, struck a pose of complete relaxation on a pile of blankets. Voters soaked up that vibe and rewarded Penny with a third place finish. Rounding out the Top Ten: 4. Henry is a rescue from the streets of Arkansas. He has a diverse heritage – with five breeds at more than 5%, and a charisma all his own. 5. Chewie, a Border Terrier from Pennsylvania who looks kind of serious given the Improv Comedy talents of his mom. 6. Brynley has characteristics of a number of breeds. Pro Tip – you haven't lived until you stand next to him on Park Avenue in Manhattan and watch every passerby glance over at Brynley and smile. 7. Dolce, another crowd pleaser in Manhattan, sporting a Chow Chow / Samoyed mix that looks more like a walking stuffed animal 🧸 than a dog. 8. Bella, a Golden Retriever with a personality to match the smile. She enjoys soaking in the breeze while boating 🚤 on a lake. 9. Wally, another Golden Retriever with a perpetual smile. 10. Cabo, a Shiba Inu, rocks out a huge smile and a collar/leash that complements the color of his coat. Very Manhattan! If you missed the contest, don’t worry! Another one just started and it asks voters to decide: “If you were a squirrel, this is the dog you don't want to see.” 🐺 👀 🐿️ If you already have a username and login from the previous contest, you can use that to vote in the new contest. If you don’t have a login, reach out in the comments below. Remember, each contest is run with a subset of dogs. If you have already sent a photo, you can send another one that you think captures the danger to squirrels even better – like your dog bounding across a grassy field or barking up a tree. Thanks for the great response to Canine Detective! 🐕 🕵️♂️ We have received so many amazing dogs that we wanted to let people see them and vote 🗳️ for their favorites. We are inviting a handful of people to participate in voting, and we will reach out with login credentials. Dogs have been allocated to different categories, so you may not see your particular dog in this round of voting. If you want to participate in the voting and you have not shared an image of your dog, you can add a comment to this post with an image (a headshot in good lighting with a simple background works best) and the name of your dog. Our first category of voting will be for ‘Cutest Dog’, with voters comparing dogs side by side and voting for the one that they think is the cutest. It can make for a nice break during a stressful day. Unless both of the dogs are so cute you stress out trying to pick one. 😀 We will have voting open for a couple days, after which we will post the top three winners. And as David Letterman reminded his viewers before his Stupid Pet Tricks segments, "This is only an exhibition, not a competition. As always – please, no wagering." Canine Detective: Share a pic and let AI help solve the mystery of your dog's breed! Who doesn’t love a great mystery! We have all looked at a dog 🐶 and wondered, what breed is that? We may have even looked at our own dog and wondered if it has a little poodle, or where those floppy ears might have come from. At Science House, we love dogs and we also love AI. So we brought them together and Canine Detective was born. A fun way to learn about your furry friend 🐺 and AI! Canine Detective is an application to apply AI analytics to an image of your dog to tell you what breeds it looks like. Take a look at the photos in this post to see examples of the breed analytics that you can get. Want to give it a spin? 🐾 Just make a comment below with a picture and the name of your dog. Headshots work best, with good lighting and simple backgrounds. We will reply to the photo with the breed results added in. If you would like us to analyze your dog picture posted elsewhere on LinkedIn, just include the hashtag #caninedetective so we can find it. Keep in mind that this is for educational purposes only, designed to encourage discussions about dog breeds and AI. It is not a DNA test, it is a reflection of the phenotype – but more on that later. Photo angles and backgrounds can influence the results. Relax and have fun. :) We will post more about other features and the story behind this app in future posts, and we will add some thoughts in our comments below. Want to learn more about Canine Detective? Reach out and we can set up a full demo via Zoom. Follow #sciencehouse to hear about our other upcoming AI applications.
