As a proud partner of Richmond Tree Week-- a citywide celebration of urban forestry and greening efforts--we hosted two events in The Green this week!

The Science Museum of Virginia's Board of Trustees is made up of representatives appointed by Virginia's Governor to help the Museum fulfill its mission. Yesterday our Chief Wonder Officer, Rich Conti, gave our newest Board of Trustee Members the lay of the land. Welcome Ram Venkatachalam, Kate Hight and Jeff Bentley!

It is amazing what gets done when you're in good company! 🌱 In just over two hours, five Sierra Club Virginia Chapter volunteers and three Science Museum staff members planted 900 PLANTS in The Green. Our horticulture team shared a history of the space, as well as exciting plans for the future, before getting to work!

Our team attended the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) Annual Conference and brought all the knowledge from Chicago back to Richmond. The ASTC Annual Conference is one of the premier annual events for science-engagement professionals and leaders in science and technology centers and museums. Six Science Museum team members across different departments attended AND presented at the conference. Highlights include joining information sessions, visiting local science museums and hearing from keynote speaker Sian “Leo” Proctor, Ph.D.

This trip was sauce-sational! While on a factory tour at San-J International, Inc. our staff got a front-row seat to the fermentation food science behind soy sauce. San-J makes one of the US's most popular brands of tamari soy sauce right here in Richmond, VA. 

You don't need to slip on AR goggles to see this amazing partnership at work! Science Museum of Virginia Foundation board member Kelley McCall joined our team to try the Quest headsets we were able to acquire with support from Meta. Together they explored virtual reality gardens created by students from The MiX! 💐
