SCORE, the nation’s largest network of free, expert business mentors, is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. Because our work is supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and thanks to our network of volunteers, we are able to deliver our services at no charge or at very low cost. We provide: -Volunteer mentors who share their expertise across 62 industries -Free, confidential business counseling in person or via email -Free business tools, templates and tips online -Inexpensive or free business workshops (locally) and webinars (online 24/7)

Emmi’s Closet is a shining example of turning passion into profit. What began as a hobby for sustainable fashion evolved into a thriving online boutique. However, the journey wasn’t without its challenges. When the pandemic hit, Michelle Nguyen had to pivot quickly, transforming her closet cleanout into a full-fledged business. Yet, a year in, growth stalled, and she realized she needed help. That’s when she turned to SCORE. Matched with a local mentor, Michelle received guidance on everything from business planning to SEO and financial management. Her mentors encouraged her to think strategically, take calculated risks and believe in her vision. I had the privilege of being assigned an exceptional mentor through the SCORE Mentors Houston Program, and my experience has been life-changing. To be transparent, my first mentor wasn’t a great fit, but I understand these are volunteers, and I didn’t hold it against them. Then I was assigned Martin Estill, and everything changed. When I first came to Martin, I was at a crossroads, wanting to resign from my job and fully dive into my business. Martin helped me streamline my plans and offered clarity on how to make that transition successful. He guided me step by step, providing a clear path forward. What really impressed me was how he helped me understand all the incredible resources available through SCORE, from free business templates to weekly speaker sessions with experienced business owners. I had no idea there were so many different types of LLCs or how vital it is to transition from being a solopreneur to a true CEO. Martin made it all clear and accessible. We meet bi-weekly, either in person at a local library or on Zoom, and he’s always available to respond to my emails with quick and insightful advice. SCORE has been instrumental in helping me turn my business idea into reality, and I’m confident that with their support, I won’t be one of the many small businesses that fail. A huge shoutout to Martin for his patience, kindness, and knowledge. And best of all, it’s all FREE! Every resource, template, and mentoring session is completely free. I can’t stress enough how valuable this program is for anyone who wants to turn their side hustle into a real business.
