The New York Chapter of the Service Design Network, historically called the NYC Service Design Collective, is a non profit run entirely by volunteers that aims to make Service Design more accessible as a discipline and methodology. We do to this through: organizing events, generating content, and acting as mentors

We're especially excited for our next event on Oct 29 at Intuit because our very own David Russo will reflect on his career in the kitchen, draw connections between the world of foodservice and the world of service design, and discuss how the lessons of the kitchen directly informs the work we do today 🤩 Register here to listen to David's reflections, eat together, and connect with like-minded professionals: https://lnkd.in/erk_98QM If the event cost is prohibitive for you to attend, please message us on Meetup and we'll be happy to provide a scholarship. #servicedesign #servicedesignnetwork #inpersonevents #nycevents #careerjourney #careerpivot #designcareer

There are days when I believe I’m a 'normal' human. And then I go to NYC, where adventures happen, and that illusion evaporates. On Tuesday, we played, reflected, and told stories at the SDN New York Chapter LEGO Serious Play event. I had SO MUCH fun! So thankful: ∙that I could come. And meet everyone. And enjoy! ∙for a full circle moment — from being a speaker remotely in August 2021 to now being an in-person attendee in August 2024. ∙for the beautiful headband from our facilitator and artist Lee Kim. The condition of receiving this gift is wearing it - I did it in NYC, and I'm ready to try a day in Halifax too 😃 To my table co-players — you made this experience exciting! It's a joy to be around design-minded folks ready to experiment and learn from each other. And I'm very grateful to the organizers for making it happen - as a meetup host myself, I know it's not always easy, but it felt very chill ❤️ Yours, happy re-converted quirky human #ServiceDesign #SDN #LEGO #Facilitation
Many thanks to Lee Kim for a fun, engaging workshop on using play, imagination, and the sub-conscious to get to know others and ourselves on a deeper level! We're also grateful to Intuit for hosting us again. What are some insights or ideas you've gleaned from this talk? #servicedesign #servicedesignnetwork #inpersonevents #nycevents #designcommunity #legoseriousplay #storytelling #actionresearch

Design the future now. Community Builder. Future Explorer/ Curating joyful everyday human experience/ curiosity over perfection
Collective wisdom. Tonight at our SDN New York Chapter monthly gathering, we used Lego Serious Play to imagine what the Service Design Network New York City chapter could be and how each of the community member can contribute to building that future. Thank you all for coming, building, and sharing time to learn together. Thank you David Russo for hosting us at the beautiful Intuit NYC office! #humanCenteredDesign #serviceDesign #playfulCommunity #LegoSeriousPlay
When was the last time you built something physical with someone (friends or strangers)? When was the last time you shared your stories that you didn’t know you had? When was the last time you experienced something that made your mind and heart meld together? This August 27 at Intuit, Lee Kim will guide us in a Lego Serious Play workshop, a full-participatory strategy tool hidden in the disguise of simple Lego bricks. Although we will be playing 100% of the time, it is a SERIOUS game. During this workshop, you will: - Build answers to the questions posed – individually and then collectively - Share stories using metaphors - Listen with eyes and ears - Experience the power of full participatory build-share-commit process of Lego Serious Play - Keep the Lego set you work with during the workshop Spots are limited so register soon! If the event cost is prohibitive for you to attend, please message us on Meetup and we'll be happy to provide a scholarship. #servicedesign #servicedesignnetwork #inpersonevents #nycevents #designcommunity #legoseriousplay

SDN New York Chapter hosted July gathering tonight at Intuit . Tucker Fort from SmartDesign shared action oriented innovation delivery with insightful examples. One thing that stood out to me was how his approach was looking for a way to bring "tangible" future. Designers are optimists. We believe that we can create a better future together. Action oriented innovation is so needed now And that action doesn't have to be a big one. Thank you Tucker Fort for sharing your experience and thoughts. Thank you SDN New York Chapter organizers for curating the experience #serviceDesign #ActionOriented #Learning
There's still time to register for our next event on July 16 at the Intuit offices in Manhattan: https://lnkd.in/eYvu4D6Y Tucker Fort (he/him) of Smart Design will busts the myth that great ideas need months to develop. His talk will dive into best practices for: 🟢 Identifying opportunities: Crowdsource insights & gather inspiration from competitors and analogous markets, and combine user experience, branding, technology, and channel considerations for efficient concept generation. 🟢 Agile user research: Utilize mobile platforms to gather user needs and co-create solutions across diverse demographics – in days. 🟢 High-impact workshops: Facilitate focused, half-day sessions to build cross-functional buy-in and momentum. 🟢 Building a winning pipeline: Prioritize ideas based on business readiness, time, complexity, and risk. And generate beautiful, clear concept and prototypes for powerful internal and external communication.
