We are pleased to announce that Galveston LNG Bunker Port has filed applications with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to build our LNG bunkering terminal on Shoal Point in Texas City, Texas. We are excited to launch a joint venture with Pilot LNG LLC to develop, construct, and operate the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering facility in the U.S. Gulf Coast. This facility will play a pivotal role in providing a more sustainable fuel for LNG-powered vessels, contributing to a greener U.S. maritime infrastructure.
Very proud to share that today, Seapath, one of our U.S.-based #maritime subsidiaries, launched a joint venture with Pilot LNG LLC to develop, construct, and operate the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering facility in the U.S. Gulf Coast. Set to commence operations in early 2026, this cutting-edge facility will play a pivotal role in providing a more sustainable fuel for LNG-powered vessels in the greater Houston/ Galveston area of Texas. With an expected initial investment of approximately $150 million, the project responds to the needs of a vital global and U.S. trade corridor. A key global trade hub, the Greater Houston waterways generated over $906 billion in economic value to the U.S. in 2022. In addition, a 2023 U.S. Department of Transportation report recognized the Greater Houston area as the top U.S. port by tonnage. As the United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO) has advanced its global strategy for maritime decarbonization, LNG has emerged as a cleaner, more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional marine fuels. It has the potential to significantly reduce vessel emissions, including cutting nitrogen oxide emissions by 80-90% and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25% over heavy fuel oil. Adoption of more sustainable fuels is critical to future-proofing global industries against a rapidly changing ecosystem. We will continue to support the transition to greener energy solutions, and we look forward to following Seapath’s work to evolve the U.S. maritime industrial sector. We also are proud to follow Seapath’s partnership with Pilot where this project is the first in a series of strategic investments by the two companies to create a network of LNG facilities in areas of unmet need in the U.S.!
