#Okeanos dive for today (March 24) will take place on the wreck of USS Nevada, a U.S. Navy battleship that took part in both World War I and World War II. Nevada survived the attack on Pearl Harbor and also participated in the Normandy Invasion, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. The vessel withstood two atomic bomb tests before being sunk by an aerial torpedo during gunnery practice in 1948. The shipwreck was rediscovered off Hawai‘i in 2020. Today's dive will mark the first telepresence-enabled exploration of USS Nevada. Join scientists as they fill in archaeological data gaps about the wreck and learn more about the marine life at the site: https://lnkd.in/ezDiAEx ETA on the seafloor: 10:30 am HST / 1:30 pm PDT / 4:30 pm EST [Image from exploration of Landing Ship Tank (LST)-884 on March 21.] #ocean #exploration #archaeology #shipwreck #livevideo #WorldWarI #WorldWarII

🎒 SEARCH Archaeologist Matthew Vanni recently visited a classroom of 4-year-olds to talk to them about archaeology. The excited students learned what is an “artifact” and how archaeologists screen sediment to uncover history every day. Thank you, Matt, for giving back to your community and inspiring the next generation of archaeologists!

In one of the most remote and extreme environments on Earth, 3,000 meters beneath the ice-covered Weddell Sea, Endurance - Sir Ernest Shackleton’s legendary ship - was discovered in remarkable condition by the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust. However, we didn’t just locate the wreck; we mapped it in unprecedented detail using state-of-the-art 3D laser scanning technology and the skills of our partners at Voyis and Deep Ocean Search Ltd. The result? The most precise digital model of a deep-sea wreck ever created. How was this achieved in such a challenging location? Wreck Watch takes you behind the scenes to explore the cutting-edge technology and extraordinary effort behind this historic discovery. Watch here: https://lnkd.in/eFCYDk7U
