Last March, at #SAFESSummit2024, SAFE and the EC brought together business leaders, industry experts, and public officials from both sides of the aisle to highlight why an all-in approach on EVs is needed to bolster American national security, rebuild a robust domestic manufacturing economy, reduce dependence on oil, and catch up to China in the race to control the automotive industry of the future. 🏭🏗 In today’s low-price critical minerals market, incentivizing domestic production and addressing the cost of producing critical minerals domestically is crucial. The administration’s finalized Section 45X rule, which provides a tax credit for the production and sale of eligible energy components including applicable critical minerals, is a game-changer for companies refining, smelting, and processing critical minerals in the United States. 🎉👏 SAFE applauds the administration’s finalized rule as it shifts the focus from post-production prices of critical minerals and addresses the cost to domestically produce them. Supporting domestic processing operations creates a reliable critical minerals market and incentivizes mining operations within the United States. 🔌 Pressure on the civilian grid is increasing at an alarming rate, due in part to explosive demand growth from AI. Shockingly, “most of our military is connected to the civilian grid,” meaning the grid’s challenges endanger our national security. If we are unable to provide adequate grid infrastructure to our military, “we’re sending them over with some risk,” and ultimately endangering our soldiers. 🔎 ESLC member General Cody (Ret.) spoke on this issue, and moderated a panel discussion on solutions, at ACORE’s Grid Forum on Oct. 10. Thank you to the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) team for bringing stakeholders together and working to ensure mission readiness and sustained American military capability and technological leadership.

SAFE’s Coalition for Reimagined Mobility (ReMo) has submitted comments to the California DMV regarding autonomous heavy-duty vehicles. Autonomous vehicles hold the promise of a safer, cleaner, more efficient trucking sector. ReMo aims to help inform the DMV's thinking around this critical technology to maximize benefits and reduce risks. Read more below:
This week the Coalition for Reimagined Mobility urged California’s DMV to adopt a regulatory framework that distinguishes between light and heavy-duty autonomous vehicles, addresses logistics access gaps, and embraces evidence-based testing requirements for safe operations. It is necessary to ensure the regulatory environment allows AVs and other advanced transportation technologies to foster and contribute to the state’s economic growth and we hope these comments help to inform the DMV's thinking around autonomous heavy-duty trucks and the future of mobility. https://lnkd.in/ehgzwZvf #autonomousvehicles #AVs #autonomoustrucking #heavyduty #California
