#FunFactFriday: Semiconductor production begins with sand 🏝 Specifically, silica sand with extremely high concentrations of quartz is purified to contain less than one in a billion non-silicon atoms. The small crystal seed is used to grow a single crystal silicon ingot or “boule,” which is then sliced into silicon wafers (source: Principal Service Solutions, Inc.). This tiny technology has a profound impact on our everyday life. The annual Women in the Workplace survey by McKinsey & Company/Lean In was released last week. Here are a few of our key takeaways: 🟢 Though women’s representation has increased at every level of corporate management, especially in the C-suite, progress at the entry and manager levels has been much slower. 🟢 Women remain under-represented across the pipeline, a gender gap that persists regardless of race and ethnicity. 🟢 The ‘broken rung’ remains a significant barrier to women’s advancement, especially for women of color. 🟢 Companies are doing more to debias hiring practices and performance reviews but need to go further. 🟢 Companies have scaled back programs designed to advance women. 🟢 Companies are setting the right priorities, but these priorities are not translating into managerial action. 🟢 Women (and particularly women of color) are not getting enough support from their managers. 🟢 About half of women under 30 say their age played a role in missing out on opportunities at work. 🟢 Women continue to confront microaggressions as often today as several years ago. Women have made progress in some areas, but there's still a lot of work to do. We all have a role to play in creating a workplace experience that is inclusive and equitable for everyone. #SEMIFoundation #WomenInTheWorkplace #Women #Inclusivity #Equity #Work
