Today on World Food Day, and every day, STgenetics is proud to be part of an essential industry that produces nutritious food! Besides feeding the world, the food sector is important to economy too. The 2024 Feeding the Economy report showed that the economic impact for this sector grew 11.8 percent compared to the last year. That number represents 20.01 percent of total U.S. output. Millions of people hold different careers in 200,000 food production industries to help maintain food supply chains. The number of direct jobs in food and agriculture was up almost 800,000 or 20 percent since the 2020 report. STgenetics® Beef team made their way through Nebraska for their 2024 National Beef Tour! While on this tour they experienced the hospitality of numerous hosting ranches where they saw many STgenetics® sired progeny. Additionally, the beef team was able to gain an in-depth view of the processing portion of the supply chain with a tour of the Sustainable Beef Packing Plant. Throughout the three-day event, the attendees also learned more about STgenetics® Ultraplus® gender sorting technology, the feed conversion efficiency of EcoFeed®, and the industry’s latest terminal index, $ST. Being the largest evidence-based Feed Conversion index in the world, EcoFeed® is proven to do more with less. STgenetics® began our EcoFeed® research in 2014 at the Ohio Heifer Center with the goal of establishing a pipeline for testing for Feed Conversion Efficiency in growing dairy heifers. By combining the individual feed intake records for heifers with their genomic data, we have been able to isolate the genetic components that affect Feed Conversion Efficiency; therefore, we can make genomic predictions of other females without feed intake records with high accuracy. Breathing exercises can lower anxiety and stress by 60% in the moment, according to Huberman Lab Podcast, a podcast led by a Stanford neuroscientist. “If you do it regularly, once or twice a day, it can lower your baseline anxiety,” says Ashley Machado, TEDx Speaker and the 2023 FFA Change Maker. Dairy farmers are overworked and stressed. Because of that can have trouble concentrating and sleeping, feel fatigued and have more headaches and other symptoms. Machado added that farmers she has worked who were more in tune with their mental health saw increased profits. In the past few years, Beef X Dairy crossbred calves have become a valuable addition to meet growing beef market needs. Derrell Peel, Oklahoma State University Extension Livestock Marketing Specialist, concludes that the growth in production of Beef x Dairy crossbred calves does not represent any net additional production of cattle but rather a change in the genetic composition of dairy calf production whereas these crossbred calves specifically impact meat markets as the beef cuts from Beef x Dairy carcasses may have access to markets previously closed to dairy beef.
