In observance of Independence Day, Shelby County Government offices are closed Thursday, July 4. Offices will reopen on Friday, July 5. Have a safe and happy holiday.

Over the last 6 years, Mayor Lee Harris and Shelby County Government have implemented paid parental leave for all employees, initiated the Child and Senior Care Benefit for Working Families, offered a new tuition reimbursement program, and NOW passed a 6% raise for all employees without increasing taxes for County residents. Programs like these have helped to make Shelby County Government #OneOfTheBestPlacesToWork. Congratulations, to the Shelby County Crime Victims and Rape Crisis Center's Director of Nursing, Dr. Amanda Taylor, on receiving UTHSC College of Nursing's Advanced Practice Nurse Hero Award. There are now more opportunities for local teens to learn about jobs skills and career paths and get paid this summer. The Shelby Co. Mayor's Office of Innovation and Memphis Urban League are partnering for The Mayor Lee Harris Urban Fellowship where rising high school juniors and seniors can learn about a diverse set of careers, obtain job readiness skills, and complete certifications in their choice of three different job fields. Congratulations to the Shelby County Fire Department on becoming a finalist in the U.S. Secretary of Defense’s 2024 Freedom Award for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. This award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Department of Defense to employers for their exceptional support of National Guard and Reserve members. By valuing their employees’ military service, they directly contribute to our nation’s security. The SCFD was nominated by Angel Fagans, a member of the Army Reserve who recently returned home from deployment. Angel has been a firefighter with SCFD for over 8 years and felt that her employers went above and beyond in assisting her before, during, and after her deployment.
