The National Sheriffs’ Association is dedicated to raising awareness about the epidemic of domestic violence in our country. On average, more than three women are murdered by their intimate partners in this country every day. National statistics show that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will be victims of domestic violence at some point in their lifetimes. Domestic violence affects more than 12 million people each year in the United States. While these numbers are shocking, most cases are never reported to law enforcement, so they only scratch the surface of how prevalent domestic violence is in our society. We, as a country, can no longer afford to stay silent. We must do more to raise awareness about domestic violence and support victims and survivors. “Raising awareness about the issue of domestic violence is a crucial part of my platform during my tenure as the 84th President of the NSA,” said Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue. “Domestic violence calls are some of the most dangerous calls that sheriffs and law enforcement officers respond to nationwide. We must do more to bring awareness to this issue that affects so many people in every community across our country. Domestic violence is a learned behavior, and we must take action now so we can teach the next generation about the importance of healthy relationships. Twelve years ago, my wife Jeanie and I founded the K. Donahue Foundation (dba the Man Up Crusade). The Man Up Crusade has partnered with professional rodeos (PRCA) and Pro Bull Riders (PBR) events across the United States, where our event partners host “Purple Night” or “Purple Day” to raise awareness and provide funding for domestic violence shelters and advocacy groups in those communities. I would love to see more national organizations, colleges, and professional sports franchises play a more prominent role in bringing awareness to the issue, so we have a better chance of changing the next generation and breaking the cycle of domestic violence.” Sheriff Donahue added, “This is not an issue where you can sit on the fence and watch this epidemic continue. It is simple. You are either for domestic violence, or you are against it. Take a stand. Help the National Sheriffs Association and the Man Up Crusade bring awareness to this issue.” #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth💜 #EndDomesticViolence #BreakTheCycle #DVAM2024 #NSA #NationalSheriffsAssociation
