Growing Stronger Together
About us
Headquartered in the center of the Vidalia growing region in southeast Georgia, family-owned Shuman Produce has been in the sweet onion industry for more than 30 years. The legacy began in the mid-1980s with a small family farm in Reidsville, GA and has grown to become a leading grower and shipper of sweet onions year-round. Now, after decades of farming and growing the world’s sweetest onions, we continue to proudly share with you what has been part of our family through three generations. To us, it’s always been about more than just onions. It’s about growing a family, a business, a culture of giving back and a product that we’re proud to share. Vidalia sweet onions have always been the benchmark at Shuman Produce, but their availability is seasonal (mid-April to late August). To ensure customers get the best-tasting, highest-quality sweet onions all year long, we have growing ventures in Peru, Texas, and Mexico. These regions provide the best quality onions throughout the year. We also offer organic sweet onions, an important part of the program as the organics category continues to grow and become more popular. We believe in upholding our four pillars in everything we do: providing superior quality, excellent customer service, innovative marketing, and giving back. We also firmly believe in giving back to the communities where our products are sold. In 2002, our president and CEO John Shuman, founded Produce for Kids, a cause-marketing organization that is creating a healthier generation by providing recipes and resources for families and encouraging them to eat more fruits and vegetables. Produce for Kids has raised more than $6.5 million for children’s charities and provided more than 7 million meals to those in need through their work with Feeding America.

Our southeast Georgia community was greatly impacted by Hurricane Helene. We are still working through some power outages, but we are relieved to share that everyone at Shuman Farms is safe. We've been working diligently all week to continue servicing our customers and to ensure minimal interruption of supply, while also supporting our team members and community in any way possible. Please keep southeast Georgia and the countless other areas affected by Hurricane Helene in your thoughts and prayers as we work through recovery efforts. Your continued support means the world to us, and we’ll keep you updated along the way. #ShumanFarms #HurricaneHelene #CommunityStrong #RecoverTogether

We are very blessed to have the next generation, Luke Shuman and Jake Shuman, joining our team. Thank you, Chip Carter and Where The Food Comes From for sharing our story. #shumanfarms #GeorgiaGrown #nextgeneration
This week on Where The Food Comes From... Farming is a tough job. The hours are long, the work is hard, there are a lot of missed birthdays and family events: A perishable product doesn’t care what your personal plans are. As a result, fewer and fewer sons and daughters are following in the footsteps of their fathers, or grandfathers, or great-great-great grandfathers in some cases. They’re leaving farming and moving into other callings. And there is great concern over who’ll come home and continue to feed us. But for Shuman Farms, the story is a little different, and that is the subject of this episode of Where The Food Comes From. Catch a brand new episode featuring Shuman Farms on our YouTube channel or Friday night at 10:00 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. on RFD-TV! For now, enjoy this special preview presser from producer and host Chip Carter! https://lnkd.in/dpd7sNaD #tvseries #Vidalia #vidaliaga #onions #sweetonions Shuman Farms Luke Shuman Vidalia Onion Committee Georgia Department of Agriculture Georgia Farm Bureau National FFA Organization National 4-H Council Georgia 4-H National Onion Association Healthy Family Project RFD-TV

At Southeast Produce Council's Southern Exposure in 2023, Kimberly Williams-Paisley spoke during the keynote luncheon about The Store, founded by Kimberly and her husband Brad Paisley. Since we're in Nashville for Southern Innovations, we decided to volunteer our time ahead of the show at The Store. The Store is redefining how we address hunger and poverty. Through their innovative free grocery model and holistic support system, they are helping individuals and families in our community thrive. We’re proud to support their mission to combat food insecurity with compassion and dignity. #ShumanFarms #GivingBack #TheStore #SEPCSouthernInnovations #Community
