To inspire, empower, and prepare our students for their best future.

About us

The Sidney City School District serves the City of Sidney and the Villages of Port Jefferson and Maplewood. Our district is made up of approximately 3,300 students, 6 schools, 200 teachers, and 150 classified staff such as aides, custodians, bus drivers, cooks, and secretaries. Each school also has a security officer or School Resource Officer and a trained emergency response team for student and staff safety. Emerson and Longfellow serve students in grades K-2. Northwood serves students in grades 3-4. Sidney Middle School serves students in grades fifth through eighth. Sidney High School serves students in grades ninth through twelfth. Alternative education opportunities are available for students who require it. Additionally, high school students may be accepted into the Opportunity School program, available for students who don't fit the traditional day-school model. Sidney City Schools has a preschool program housed at Whittier Early Childhood Center. Serving both students on IEPs and those who are typically developing starting at age 3, WECC introduces learning through play and exploration. Students with disabilities attend preschool for free, while those who are typically developing pay tuition on a sliding scale. Members of the community and families of prospective students are always welcome to tour our schools. Please contact school principals to arrange a time to visit.

The Student Council at Sidney Middle School embraced the spirit of giving this holiday season with a canned food drive to support the Alpha Center's Christmas Box initiative. In an effort to make a positive impact on the community, the SMS Student Council initiated a campaign before their fall break to collect non-perishable food items to contribute to the Alpha Center's Christmas Boxes. The Alpha Center, a local organization committed to serving those in need, annually distributes Christmas Boxes filled with essential food items to families facing challenges during the holiday season. The SMS Student Council encouraged students and staff to participate in this charitable endeavor by donating canned goods and other non-perishable food items. Each homeroom classroom had a box and a list of items requested by the Alpha Center. Homerooms who checked off all the items on the box received a prize! "We decided we wanted to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those less fortunate during the holiday season. By collecting canned goods for the Alpha Center's Christmas Boxes, we hope to bring warmth and joy to families in need," said Missy Schneider, SMS Student Council Advisor. Members of the SMS Student Council recently loaded up 80 boxes and delivered them to the Alpha Community Center. 60 were completed Christmas boxes with all the items on the Alpha Center’s requested list. Alpha Community Center Executive Director Justin Neu shared that the Center typically distributes around 150 boxes each year. With the donations of others in the community combined with the 60 complete boxes from Sidney Middle School, the Alpha Community Center is close to meeting its goal. About SMS Student Council Sidney Middle School Student Council is dedicated to fostering leadership skills, community engagement, and personal growth of its members. It boasts more than 50 members from 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade at SMS. About Alpha Center The Alpha Community Center is a 501C(3) non-profit organization serving the Sidney and Shelby County area since 198; today, it serves the community in four main ways: hot meals, an emergency pantry, children/adult programming, and rent/utility assistance. More information about the Christmas Box program can be found by calling the Apha Center at 937-498-9758.

Look who we found—Darius Boeke, SHS Class of 2020 graduate! Darius was an incredibly engaged student both in school and in extracurricular activities while he was at SHS, so it’s no surprise to see him helping to recruit for his alma mater Bluffton University! While catching up, he said, “I just want to share more about Bluffton with students and help see if it’s a good fit for them!” Super awesome to see you back at SHS, Darius! #jacketpride #sidneyhighschool #sidneyhighschoolalumni

We have had an outstanding start to the new school year! Our youngest learners at Whittier Early Childhood Center started the year by getting familiar with their new learning environments and meeting new friends. It's pretty amazing watching the first-time students be so brave in those first days! Our dedicated preschool staff works incredibly hard to make the transition to school easier for these 3 and 4 year olds. #JacketPride #WhittierEarlyChildhoodCenter #SidneyCitySchools
