Young people are exploring their identities and discovering themselves. Shaming students is SCARY and just plain wrong, sex ed ISN'T. Yet 4 states explicitly require instruction that discriminates against LGBTQ+ people 🙅♀️ Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gUtx8PWE Our job is not to tell young people how they should love, it's to help them understand their physical and emotional development and listen to their concerns. Youth need open and affirming spaces where they can ask questions and have the confidence to be themselves. #SexEd #SexEducation #SIECUS #Parenting #YoungPeople

As a parent, I wish I knew that my child would be taught comprehensive sex education in school. Unfortunately, only abstinence education is required in Michigan. Anything beyond that requires an advisory board that approves what is taught, for better ... or worse. On the one hand, lots of local control. On the other, no guarantee for parents that our children are going to get the information they need to grow up safe and healthy, which is kind of scary! Do you know the laws in your state? #sexedsaveslives #publichealth #healthpolicy
Not having answers is SCARY, sex ed ISN'T 📣 Only 30 states require sex education; even fewer cover STIS, consent, and/or medically accurate info 😨 Yeah... it's bad. And this failure to provide quality sex education manifests into scary realities for youth and parents who are asking for better. "I'm not really interested in sex... I hope that's ok? I'm sorry." You're not broken and you never have to qualify your sexuality to anybody. It's perfectly okay to just not be interested. Asexual people can have and enjoy sex, asexual people can desire romance and pursue relationships, some might be interested in one of the two. Some might not be interested either. Let's end stigma! Asexual people, perspectives, and awareness belong in sex education. 🖤🩶🤍💜 #SexEd #SexEducation #Ace #Asexual #AsexualAwarenessWeek
