Around the world, many women still don’t get it. ❌ They don't get employment opportunities. Financial independence. Decision-making power. The chance to run businesses. Why? Because of gender inequality and disability discrimination. This #InternationalWomensDay, we're calling for this inequality to be addressed. Women's empowerment is life-changing. Three women from around the world share their journeys to work at #Sightsavers 🌍 We believe that all women should be able to claim their rights, access opportunities and gain economic empowerment 💪

"It’s even more challenging for women with disabilities, as we experience a lot of stigma. We face a double bias – you have to prove yourself as a woman and you have to prove your abilities as a woman with a disability. "I have been underestimated many times. I’ve had colleagues who don’t believe I’m capable and I’ve had to push through to establish my space. But I’ve also come to discover that everyone has challenges, and it’s how you respond to them that matters. "After completing a training project for people with disabilities and gaining digital and communications skills, I’m now working in government, leading a project that increases access to information for people with disabilities. I also founded a development forum that supports young people to access economic empowerment opportunities, from businesses to banking." Lydia's story shows that women with disabilities can achieve their potential when they can access their rights. Still, many women don't get these opportunities. It's time for change. #IWD2025 #HealthForAll https://lnkd.in/e6FyvWwf

Failure to close gender employment gaps reduces a country's economic growth by 20% on average, according to the data. In many countries, women face multiple challenges when seeking employment or starting a business. Gender discrimination alone can drive women into poverty, but the risk increases if paired with disabilities. In
