🚨 Unprecedented floods in South Sudan disproportionately affecting people with disabilities #SouthSudan is facing its worst flooding in a century, with 1 million people already affected and projections showing 3.3 million will be impacted by the end of 2024. For people with disabilities, this crisis is particularly severe. When climate disasters strike, people with disabilities are more likely to die, be injured and suffer property damage. Our Disability Inclusion Facilitators are working tirelessly in Jonglei State to: ✅ Provide mobility devices and accessible temporary shelters ✅ Offer evacuation guidance and psychosocial support ✅ Train community leaders in disability-inclusive emergency response We must ensure the estimated 1.2 million people with disabilities in South Sudan aren't left behind. "Consulting different stakeholder groups is important as a best practice for all countries developing strategies. So often, civil society organizations and other groups who use health services get ignored, and not consulting them is bound to fail regarding impact and implementation." Our International Director of Impact & Advocacy, Katri Bertram, shared this call at the World Health Summit, "Building Trust for a Healthier World." The message to policymakers? DON'T ignore people with disabilities or patients with sight loss. They have a wealth of wisdom to sharpen your health strategies! We're proud that our Learning and Innovation Expert, Andera Delfyna, was recently featured on the Reimagining Government podcast. She shared insights on reimagining impact evaluation systems: 1️⃣ Redefine impact: Move beyond immediate results. Impact should be viewed as the lasting legacy our programmes leave in communities. 2️⃣ Embrace open knowledge: Organisations should share knowledge openly to support collaboration, not competition. 3️⃣ Involve participants fully: Engage programme participants at every stage - from design to evaluation. 4️⃣ Reframe evaluations: Position evaluations as learning opportunities, not donor report cards. 5️⃣ Look beyond metrics: Increased participant confidence and voice often yield impacts beyond quantifiable targets. 6️⃣ Empower, don't just serve: Shift the perception of programme participants from passive beneficiaries to active contributors. 7️⃣ Commit to continuous learning: Impact work is an ongoing journey of adaptation and improvement, not a one-time assessment. 8️⃣ Value ground-level insights: Actively seek and incorporate feedback from teams working directly with communities. 🎧 Listen to Andera's full interview here: https://lnkd.in/dsCwuY7S Thanks to Adrian Brown and Pravallika Valiveti from the Centre for Public Impact (CPI) for hosting this podcast! #LightForTheWorld #ImpactEvaluation #SocialImpact #SustainableDevelopment #InnovationInDevelopment
