Things I am not interested in: performative activism and self-sacrifice in social and environmental impact-related work. I will save my rant on this and my stories of how I am very good at the latter for another day. But as I prepare to bring another group of women + non-binary changemakers together for my upcoming circle, Carrying The Question, it feels important to invite people who are considering joining to please leave your “good student” questions at the door. Good student questions are those that we think we should ask, that we hope will earn us praise or belonging, or make us look smart. And we started asking them for a very good reason: to help ourselves feel safe. But good student questions will not help you:  💥 Uncover the true leverage points in your changemaking work 💥 Help you find your unique path in this constantly evolving landscape of our world 💥 Know how to tend to yourself as you do this challenging work of systems change Instead, I want to invite your honest questions. The ones that are most alive in your heart. In the last few weeks, the questions on my heart have included: “Where can I find joy amidst the challenges of what’s happening?”, “What step forward could I take this season that would meet my needs and be of service?”, and “How might I move my body more in my daily life?” If you’re a woman or non-binary person who cares about our collective future and you’d like to learn a tool to help you find insights into questions like these, I’d love to have you join me for Carrying The Question, starting Oct. 25! Link to sign up in comments below. And drop me a 🙌 in the comments if you too are so over putting what other people think ahead of what’s true for you. #regenerativeleadership #cycleawareness #socialimpact #socialentrepreneurship #climateleadership #sustainability #feminineleadership #womensleadership #personalsustainability

There are some questions no one can answer for you, especially as an edge-walking changemaker. Questions about your next right next step, how to make systems change happen in your unique situation, how to tend to yourself through the challenges, and what kind of future you want to help build. It was having these types of questions lurking in the shadows constantly that led me to start identifying a big, complex question every cycle and then “carrying” it with me until I reached that phase again, usually to find that I had gained new perspective, received some clues, felt more comfortable with the uncertainty of it, or all three! In time, this evolved into a practice I call “Carrying The Question” and it works with 2 parts of us: 🌀 Your cyclical self – the part of you that changes as you move through cycles–of your body, of life, of nature. This part can illuminate answers by providing several perspectives on your questions. 🌳 Your wise self – the part of you that is unchanging but can be hard to access in our noisy world. This part can help you know what’s uniquely true and right for you, and can offer a “3rd way” you might not have considered before. Together, they are incredible partners in helping you find insight and ease in the unknown. And this practice is so incredibly helpful for us as edge-walking changemakers because uncertainty and complexity are an inherent part of our work. If you’d like to join a circle of women + non-binary changemakers to learn this tool and build up your self-trust and your comfort with uncertainty, Sister Seasons' Carrying The Question Fall Circle starts October 25th! Because ya’ll, the path to a just, regenerative future is not paved. Being able to find your own way and in collaboration with others is how we will get there, and there are skills we can build to help us. *Details + registration link in the comments below.* 💓 I’d love to hear from you: what questions about your changemaking work have only you been able to answer for yourself? #regenerativeleadership #climate #socialimpact #sustainability #womensleadership #feminineleadership #cycleawareness

What if you could learn to *flourish* in the inherent complexity of systems change work?  💃 As changemakers, we’re literally swimming in complexity everyday. But we can build the skills to learn to navigate the uncertainty of our work + world with more ease.  This fall, I’m hosting Sister Seasons' 6-week circle for women and non-binary changemakers to help us do just that using a weekly writing practice I call “Carrying The Question.” Carrying The Question is a cycle-based self-inquiry tool that comes from my own practice that can help you uncover insights into our biggest questions, and build the skills to get comfortable with complexity and uncertainty. By doing the weekly practice, you may notice you…  🌱 Can more easily access the infinite well of wisdom inside of you  🌱 Feel adept at working with cycles to surface answers  🌱 Trust that even if you don’t have the WHOLE answer today, you have the skills to identify some clues and/or the confidence to know an answer will come in time  🌱 Know how to take an elephant-in-the-room situation or a sinking feeling in your stomach and turn it into a question you can get curious about  🌱 Feel more courage at facing and loving the unknowns that want to light our path forward All of these are incredibly helpful skills for changemakers, but also for just being a human on earth right now, so that we can stay steady and wise as we navigate unknowns (yes, even in election season!). For full details and to register, head to the comments for the link. (Use code EARLYBIRD for $25 off thru 10/9) ❓ I'd love to hear from you: What questions are you “carrying” this season? #regenerativeleadership #feminineleadership #sustainability #socialimpact #climate #womensleadership

Last week, we wrapped up the pilot of Sister Seasons' Reimagining Leadership and *wow* was it a joy! At the end of the experience, I'm feeling incredible gratitude for: 🌼 The 6 changemakers who showed up with openness + presence 🌼 The big questions asked by the group around leadership, our relationships with each other + the earth, and if it's possible to be ourselves and be a leader (the answer to that last one is, of course, YES!) 🌼 The honor of introducing the group to the Work That Reconnects, The Circle Way, Tara Sophia Mohr's Playing Big, and so many more of my teachers 🌼 Spacious time to build meaningful relationships 🌼 The opportunity to weave in parts of myself I'd left behind in pre-Sister Seasons / pre-pandemic life, back when I was working in CSR and hosting women's retreats in my free time! 🌼 Even deeper clarity that Sister Seasons' work is to provide skill-building to women + non-binary changemakers, so that we're resourced to be the thriving, regenerative leaders we long to be I'm also feeling grateful because this cohort sparked the idea for this fall's Carrying The Question circle. I'd never shared the Carrying The Question self-inquiry tool publicly before, and after hearing their feedback and results, the idea for this new lighter circle experience appeared! If you're curious about Reimagining Leadership, you can: ▶ Join the waitlist for March '25 (there are max 10 spots so you'll want to be on the list!) ▶ DM me to talk about bringing the program to your organization or community ▶ Sign up for Carrying The Question: Fall Circle, running Oct 25-Dec 6, to learn a key tool I teach in Reimagining Leadership and build your skills in navigating uncertainty and complexity All links below in the comments, and thank you to everyone who's encouraged me on this path of teaching! #regenerativeleadership #climateleadership #impactleaders #feminineleadership #changemakers #changeagents #womensleadership #sustainability #socialimpact #climatechange

Founder, Sister Seasons | Leadership Skill-Building for Changemakers rooted in nature's regenerative cycles | Social Impact Facilitator & Experience Designer | Focused on gender + climate intersection

Wondering how to be a truly regenerative leader? Follow nature's lead. 🌱 Nature literally shows us how to regenerate ourselves and our planet as it moves through the seasons. And it does this despite all that it is experiencing as a result of climate change + environmental destruction, because the seasonal cycle is part of how it generates the resources to sustain itself. (An important thing to remember when we're hooked on the urgency of our work.) In the fall season, nature is letting go, simplifying, harvesting and preparing for rest, i.e. not going harder / faster, trying to squeeze it all in, and attending every single conference or meeting 🙃 Since we as humans are nature, this is what we need to do as well, even if it's in small ways that are within our control, to support our personal sustainability and to be able to continue our changemaking efforts. On Sister Seasons' blog, I dive more into these lessons from fall and include 3 key questions to help you discern how to work with—rather than against—nature this season. ( 🔗 Link in comments below!) Learning from nature's regeneration cycles can be so transformative for us as impact leaders. Because let's be honest: how are we ever going to be capable of stewarding our planet's regeneration if the only way we know how to operate in the world leads to burnout? 🌱 Feel free to tag a friend here who would enjoy the post, and tell me: how are you leaning into these themes this fall? #sustainability #climatechange #fallseason #regenerativeleadership #personalsustainability #socialimpact #changemakers

A new Sister Seasons' circle for women + non-binary changemakers starts October 16 and it's got the best *fall* vibes 👇 Fall has arrived. The year’s winding down. We’re in a challenging election season. And life as a human trying to build a regenerative, just world is still…hard. But the 2 things that never fail to help me navigate the choppy waters of being a big-hearted human dedicated to the flourishing of people + planet: (1) accessing my inner wisdom and (2) community. So this season, I’m excited to announce a new 8-week circle for women and non-binary changemakers who want to reconnect to themselves and have the space and support to explore the big questions that come up as we build a bridge to a more just world as we're walking on it. If you’re feeling disillusioned, overwhelmed, disconnected, depleted or curious, this circle will teach you how to access your inner wisdom with the Carrying The Question tool, a simple cycle-based self-inquiry writing practice you’ll do in as little as 10 minutes each week, starting with a live workshop. Then, you’ll receive spacious support through 3 additional virtual gatherings for sharing, support and connection + weekly accountability reminders in our group chat. Rather than a deep learning experience, expect nourishing support to help you start the process of turning inward as the seasons shift, so you can ground in yourself and hear what’s true for you right now. 🙋♀️ If you're interested, join the waitlist to express your interest, vote on our session times and get $25 off when registration opens. 🍂 For more details, watch the announcement video! (Links for both in the comments below) 💓 Know someone who might like to join or help spread the word, please tag them in the comments below. And see you in circle! #changemakers #sustainability #socialimpact #climatechange #womeninsustainability #womensleadership #womenscircle

Is it possible, relevant, or even ethical for us to thrive as changemakers? 🤔 This inquiry came from a recent "listening tour" I went on to speak with women + nonbinary folks working in impact-related roles across sectors. I wanted to know how we're doing, and how I (and Sister Seasons) might help. So I asked 8 changemakers if they felt like they had what they needed to thrive in making the change they hope to make. Did I know this was a cheeky question? Of course! Rates of burnout among impact professionals are sky high, and I've struggled with it myself for years. But I also feel strongly that we must figure out how to thrive in order to sustain ourselves as we do this long-term work of systems change. So I wrote about it—and spoiler: it comes down to evolving our definition of thriving to align with the realities of our time and the vision we have for the future. To read the full post, head to Sister Seasons' library (link in comments). If you're a woman or non-binary changemaker, I'd love to hear from you: what's your definition of thriving? And do you have your own permission to move toward it? #changemakers #socialimpact #esg #sustainability #climate #climateaction #climateactivist #systemsthinking #socialjustice #environmentaljustice #cycleawareness

"All ways of knowing” - what does this phrase mean to you? 🐝 To me, it feels like an antidote to our culture's obsession with intellectualizing everything and ignoring that there is an intelligence in: 🌱 our bodies 🌱 the whole of the natural world 🌱 people gathering together To me, it feels like being able to tap into these many ways of knowing is an essential skillset for leaders as we increasingly enter uncharted territory on our rapidly changing planet. We haven't been here before, and so we need ways of sensing the right next step that aren't just "get a masters degree in it" or look it up in a book. (We don't have time and the answers aren't likely there.) 🌎 We're going to tap into these many ways of knowing to discover how we might lead in these pivotal times in Reimagining Leadership-a 3-month circle for women and non-binary changemakers who want to envision their leadership beyond the status quo. Together, we'll engage in meaningful conversation to co-sense together, try on alternative ways of leading, use a cycle-based tool for self-inquiry into our big Qs about our own leadership, and engage our minds and whole selves through thoughtful resources and activities. All with the hope of helping you to grow your vision (and your toolkit) as a leader. The course portal opens this Wednesday (!), and we officially start July 17. There are 2 spots left. I hear often that many of you are patiently waiting for a Sister Seasons book... Which lights me up every time I hear it, because YES I do want to write a book, and I have no doubt those of you asking will be cozying up to an #intersectionalfeminist, 'body literacy is nature literacy', 'solving climate change starting at the level of your body' half memoir, half how-to guide one day. But in the meantime, I write a beautiful monthly newsletter with a 66% open rate (🔥) that gets rave reviews for connecting all the dots between nature, climate, our body's cycles, and how to be a changemaker co-creating a better future while the planet rapidly changes. (And nope, you don't need a period to be on the list!) 📣 So here is a quick heads up that the next one comes out May 15, which means today is a great day to subscribe. Bonus: If you join my free course Field Notes, you'll automatically be added to the newsletter AND get to learn how to track your body's + nature's cycles to support your well-being. ➡ If you're a huge-but discerning-fan of newsletters like me, I'd love to hear: what are your newsletter likes and dislikes? What are the common threads that make your favorite newsletters enjoyable to read?
