Our own Sister Margaret Elizabeth Murphy, OP was welcomed home by God on June 29, 2024. She was 85 years old and had devoted 44 years to religious life. Her ministry was in education. Sister Peggy earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies and Theology from Brentwood College. She had been a member of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth before joining our congregation. Sister Peggy taught in Brooklyn schools and then at Corpus Christi in Mineola as a teacher and a librarian. She will be remembered for her generosity and kindness. We ask that you remember her and all her loved ones as they mourn her loss. Called to be one of our #SignsofJoyandHope, receive our sister now into the company of St. Dominic, St. Catherine of Siena, and all who are rejoicing that they are remembered by God.

Tomorrow, June 7, 2024, we wear orange for National Gun Violence Awareness. From wearorange.org: "Why orange? On January 21, 2013, Hadiya Pendleton marched in President Obama’s second inaugural parade. One week later, Hadiya was shot and killed on a playground in Chicago. Soon after this tragedy, Hadiya’s friends commemorated her life by wearing orange, the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others...We deserve more than to live in a country where firearms are the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States. But as incidents of gun violence have grown, so too has the movement to stop it." #wearorange #enough #signsofjoyandhope
