On September 21st 2024 Skills for Life and Federation of Black Canadians held the 2nd annual Impact gala. This was an evening dedicated to celebrating achievements, fostering community, and creating meaningful change. The Impact Gala was created as a way to raise money to advance the well-being and empowerment of our youth. This year we raised over $40,000 to help support programs such as Student Support For Learning Program. I had the pleasure of attending the Impact Gala hosted by the Federation of Black Canadians and Skills For Life Inc. As always, it was great to connect with some of my favorite people - Melisa Ellis and Mthabisi Mhlanga, CPA, CSPO. Lucky Osunbiyi made sure I felt like the host on the red carpet! 📸 I also had the chance to meet some new faces Ignatius Onyekwelu, FOLA BAKARE, and Kelechi E.. Kudos to Christopher Thompson and his team for putting together such a powerful and impactful event. There’s real power in community!

Year 2 of the Impact Gala in the books 🙌🏾. Every year that goes by I am more and more amazed at what we can accomplish. Thank you to all the staff, volunteers, my board on Skills For Life Inc and Federation of Black Canadians , and the supporters who come out. I truly believe in the Impact both organizations are making and it shows with the increase of supporters each year. Also, thank you to all the people that told me I couldn’t and told me it would fail. While there has been plenty of falls, they have only made me wiser and better prepared to take on even more. I continue to live by these wise words 1. Fall forward - Denzil Washington 2. You have to be willing to be the fool to move forward. It’s a pre curser to transformation. - Jordan Peterson 3. How your actions move and touch those around you becomes more fulfilling than the original goal - Kobe

Attending the Impact Gala 2024 was truly an inspiring experience! The celebration of Black excellence was powerful, and seeing the achievements of Black Canadians, alongside the bright future being shaped by young Black leaders, left me filled with hope and pride. The strength, resilience, and talent within our community were beautifully showcased. The Federation of Black Canadians (FBC) plays a vital role in advancing the social, economic, political, and cultural interests of Canadians of African descent. Their commitment to “Stronger Together – Nothing about Us Without Us” resonates deeply with me. In the future, I would love to have the opportunity to partner with this incredible organization and contribute to the work they’re doing to combat racial injustice and build a brighter future for Black Canadians. Thank you for creating a space that uplifts and unites our community. I look forward to the possibility of working together to create lasting change.Federation of Black Canadians Catholic Community Services of York Region Hon.
