When asked why she joined Sling, Ali shared, "I travel often for concerts and constantly send money to friends in different countries. What did you want to be when you grew up? 🐣 Steve Jobs. I was obsessed with watching Apple Keynotes and learning everything about every Apple product, despite owning hardly any of them. My purple iPod shuffle was my prized possession and I used to dream of apps I would want to invent one day. 2. What's the best piece of career advice you've ever received? 🤓 You're never going to be able to please everyone, so you might as well do what you want! 3. For #TalentTuesday this week, we’re spotlighting Alan Donatiello, CFA who recently joined our team full time as our Director of Financial Planning and Analysis. Alan has spent his career both investing in and helping build fintech companies. In his own words, when asked why he joined Sling, Alan said “I believe we have the unique opportunity to build the next generation of payments technology on the scale of the largest global payments companies - a product that not only makes our users’ lives a little bit easier - but that also creates something novel and exciting for the world with potential use cases we can't even imagine today. It’s one of these things that feels inevitable, and I'm convinced we are on the right side of change.” Our Q&A with him 👇 1. What's the best piece of career advice you've ever received? Set and maintain the highest standards possible; underpromise and overdeliver. 2. What's the best piece of advice you could give to someone just starting in your industry? Focus on the first-principles of "why" and "how" things work from both the bottom-up and the top-down. Acquire skills as early as possible, build around those skills, develop ownership, and then go sell yourself and your product around those skills. 3. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? Close toss-up between flying and foresight, but probably the former if I had to choose one. The ability to fully explore the world at your whim would be an incredible gift -- the ultimate adventure. 4. What's the most rewarding part of your job? The opportunity to help craft the financial and strategic direction for the company, to watch it evolve and grow in real-time, and to work with an incredible team of equally zealous people all working to build something great. We’re switching Sling’s default stablecoin to USDP. The next time you open Sling you’ll be prompted to switch the stablecoin in your wallet from USDC to USDP. This won’t really impact users at all, but it’s a huge milestone for Sling. USDP is a US Dollar Stablecoin issued by the Paxos Trust Company in the United States. Paxos and USDP are regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) and USDP is fully backed 1:1. This switch is part of a broader partnership between Sling and Paxos which we believe is an important part of setting Sling up for global expansion. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Paxos and we’re excited for all of the ways that our partnership will help us grow Sling globally. Over time we plan to add more stablecoins to Sling, with a primary focus on covering the currencies of the G7 countries. We believe that the product experience here will be to allow users to choose what stablecoin their wallet balance is stored in and that we will provide seamless on-chain swaps when sending between Sling wallets stored in different stablecoins. We’re actively working on adding additional G7 stablecoins and hope to have more to announce in that regard shortly. For this week’s #TalentTuesday, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on our Head of Partnerships & Ops, Kyle Callender. Working on both sides of the pond for two of the biggest names in fintech, Square and Monzo, Kyle’s entire career has been training him for this role. From Risk, FP&A, Operations and partnership management, Kyle’s adept at working at start ups and scale ups - he thrives in fast pace environments so long as it’s tackling a challenge he’s interested in. When asked what inspired him about Sling, he admits “I was always a crypto skeptic and saw it as a solution without a problem until seeing the power of the current Solana blockchain combined the global reach that you can get using stablecoins. But mostly, I joined Sling because of the people and the challenge. What we are doing is hard, but this is a dream team of people and I love going to work with them every day.” Read on for our Q&A with Kyle: 1. What did you want to be when you grew up? 🐣 When I went to college I was deciding between being a pilot, an aerospace engineer, and a chef. Somehow I ended up in applied Economics and found a niche in the payments world to be a fascinating place everyone uses but nearly no one thinks about. 2. What's the best piece of advice you could give to someone just starting in your industry? 🤓 Say Yes. Focus on breadth of experience until you find the thing that fascinates you so much you end up with depth by accident. 3. What's the most rewarding part of your job? ✨ Knowing that with each new partnership I can build we are one step closer to making this dream a reality. 4. What's the best piece of career advice you've ever received?🫂 My mother taught me at a young age, that although I was smart "It's not about what you know, it's about who you know." Building personal relationships and always acting with the highest integrity is what really sets people apart in their careers in my mind.
