Sharing with The Wall Street Journal the now outdated corporate communications approach of the 100-day plan makes me feel 1,000 years old (or at least 50), but I can’t stress enough that times have changed for incoming CEOs. While the messaging from the new leaders at Starbucks, Boeing, Walgreens, Nike among others feels familiar, as it should, with its focus on culture, gathering inputs from frontliners, and the pressing need to make change, the expedience and frequency in which the message needs to be delivered has meaningfully accelerated. Whether messaging for a turnaround situation, as an incoming leader, or a politician stumping for your vote, the changes in the very nature of the workforce (more transient) and investor worlds (much shorter-term) make it imperative to win those hearts and minds ASAP!
