🏌️♂️ SME Industries recently hosted our annual “Strong as Steel” golf tournament at the beautiful Mountain Dell Golf Course. It was a day filled with camaraderie, competition, and community spirit as our teams teed off for a great cause. We were thrilled to support Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity a remarkable organization dedicated to building affordable housing and strengthening communities. Through the generosity of Course Sponsors DLR Contracting & Mountain Crane Service with and many, many others sponsors, we raised thousands that will directly impact families in need, helping to provide them with safe, affordable homes. Winners of the Tournament were richly awarded for their golfing prowess, with winners taking home prizes including all-expenses-paid trips to see professional teams play in the stadiums we helped build like SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park. A huge thank you to everyone who came out, competed, and contributed to making this event a resounding success. Our crews and team members were honored to contribute to building such beautiful and meaningful structures. Our teams fabricated and erected both ENdeavor and Voyager building on NVIDIA’s campus, along with the pedestrian bridge connecting the two buildings. This is what we do, we build and bring to life the manifestation of our partner’s vision.
Why is NVIDIA's campus made of triangles? Of course, the triangle is the basic primitive of 3D graphics, where NVIDIA got its start. But there is a deeper meaning: it is a physical instantiation of NVIDIA as a learning machine - and a warning against hubris. NV1 and NV2, NVIDIA's first two chips, were not built to render triangles. Instead they rendered quadratic surfaces. Almost fatally ambitious for a startup to reinvent graphics without triangles. NV1 failed while NV2 was cancelled. But NV3 pivoted to the triangle. NVIDIA memorialized this epic pivot in the architecture of our headquarters. Every time I see a triangle at the office, it is a reminder of adversity, grit, humility - and learning. A reminder that we got it very wrong in the past, but we learned. This lesson is also in the names we use for these buildings and the company logo: ENdeavor + Voyager (EN-V spells envy, and iNVIDIA also means envy in Latin). Envy historically brought about the evil eye, as a consequence of pride. So our logo is jealous green and shows an enchanted eye. I love working at a place where these lessons are woven into the physical tapestry of our work. Every day a reminder of the need for learning and a warning against hubris. 💚💚💚

Kudos to the SME team members for making a major milestone on the Century City Center project. It takes many hands, months of planning and coordination with our crews and partners like Clark Construction Group, The Herrick Corporation and RELIABLE CRANE SERVICE LLC to safely engineer, build and execute such a technical feat.
The Clark team achieved a major tower crane relocation at Century City Center 🏗️ Crews moved the tower crane from within the building’s footprint to a structural platform extending from level five, allowing the team to progress with structural infills and steel. The team spent months collaborating with the structural steel and crane trade partners and the structural engineer of record to engineer a platform that could support the crane’s load. Congratulations to the Clark team, RELIABLE CRANE SERVICE LLC Services, and the joint venture of THE HERRICK COMPANY, INC. and SME Steel on this amazing feat!
