She has been a leading voice on issues of #diversity, #equity, and #inclusion in #education and society. Cole's work has focused on promoting educational access and excellence for African Americans and other marginalized groups. Cole's contributions to education and advocacy have been widely recognized. She has received numerous awards and honors, including the Eleanor Roosevelt Val-Kill Medal, the Fulbright Lifetime Achievement Medal, and the National Visionary Leadership Award. She is best known for her work as the founder and president of the Children's Defense Fund (CDF), a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for the rights and well-being of children, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. In addition to her activism, she is also an accomplished author and public speaker. She has written several books, including "The Measure of Our Success: A Letter to My Children and Yours" and "The Sea Is So Wide and My Boat Is So Small: Charting a Course for the Next Generation." She frequently speaks out on issues affecting children and families, advocating for policy changes and social reforms. After completing law school, Houston briefly practiced law in Washing, D.C., but soon turned his attention to #civilrights advocacy and legal education. He became the first African American on the faculty of Howard University Law School and trained a generation of African American lawyers to challenge segregation and discrimination in the courts. Houston played a leading role in several landmark civil rights cases, including Murray v. Pearson, which laid the groundwork for the Supreme Court's decision in Brown v. Board of Education, and Smith v. Allwright.
