Embracing Change – The Agile Way. Agile Manifesto Principle 2: “Welcome changing requirements, even late in development. Agile processes harness change for the customer's competitive advantage.” Agile development is built to adapt. This principle emphasizes the importance of flexibility and responsiveness to change, ensuring that the final product aligns with the evolving needs of the customer. Welcoming changing requirements in Agile involves being open to modifications at any stage of the project. This flexibility allows teams to adjust their work based on new insights, market shifts, or customer feedback, ensuring the product remains relevant and valuable. Agile methodologies view change not as a disruption but as an opportunity to enhance the product and better serve the customer. Consider a team developing a mobile banking app. Midway through development, new regulatory requirements are introduced that affect how transactions must be processed. Instead of seeing this as a setback, the team welcomes the change, adjusts their development priorities, and incorporates the necessary updates into their current sprint. By doing so, they ensure the app remains compliant and competitive, ultimately delivering a more robust product to the customer. To apply this principle effectively, teams should... 📌 Agile Principle 1: Prioritizing Early and Continuous Delivery 🚀 “Our highest priority is to satisfy the customer through early and continuous delivery of valuable software.” ☺️ This principle is all about delivering working software frequently to meet customer needs. Early and continuous delivery ensures that customers receive value at every stage of the project, allowing for quick feedback and faster improvements. ⚡️ Here’s how to implement this principle: 👇 🤏 Adopt an Iterative Approach: Break down projects into smaller, releasable increments, delivering working software at the end of each sprint. ⭐️ Focus on Delivering Value: Prioritize features and tasks that provide the most customer value early in the project. 👂 Incorporate Feedback Loops: Regularly engage with customers to gather feedback and adjust the product accordingly, ensuring it remains aligned with their needs. 🫂 By embracing early and continuous delivery, you drive higher customer satisfaction and more successful outcomes. Is your team delivering value at every stage? Are you gathering feedback continuously? Focus on these aspects to enhance customer satisfaction and accelerate project success! 🎉 Ready to enhance your Agile practices? Why Does Snowbird Use SAFe? (And What Is SAFe Anyway?) Snowbird Agility, Inc. is a digital services company that embraces Agile in all our practices, from software development to cyber security to our own back-office workflows. As we discussed in our last post, Agile is an umbrella term that can be used in a variety of ways through the numerous frameworks that have been developed. The primary framework that we use here at Snowbird is SAFe, which stands for Scaled Agile Framework. Our agilists are trained and certified in SAFe and we keep up with the latest research and developments at SAFe. However, SAFe isn’t just a regular Agile tool, it’s a granddaddy of Agile tools because it incorporates many Agile frameworks in its use. SAFe is designed to address the needs of larger organizations that require coordination across multiple teams and complex projects. While individual Agile methodologies like Scrum, Kanban, Lean, XP, and Crystal focus on team-level practices, SAFe provides a structured approach for scaling Agile principles and practices across the entire organization. Here's how SAFe fits into the broader landscape of Agile methodologies: 1. Scaling Framework: SAFe is not a standalone Agile methodology but a framework that integrates various Agile methodologies and practices to work cohesively at scale. It incorporates elements from Scrum, Kanban, and XP, among others, to provide a comprehensive approach for large organizations. 2. Levels of Organization: SAFe introduces multiple levels of organization, including the Team, Program, Large Solution, and Portfolio levels. Each level has specific roles, responsibilities, and artifacts to ensure alignment and collaboration across the organization. This structure helps manage dependencies and synchronization across teams. 3. Alignment and Governance: SAFe emphasizes alignment through features like Program Increment (PI) Planning, where teams plan and commit to objectives... Snowbird Agility, Inc.. supports all the work of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as we know our veterans have given their best and deserve the best in return. We are excited for opportunities to work with the VA as well, wanting to give them our best with our #MeaningfulModernization. It's work like this that is critically important to support, and we are celebrating the success of the PACT Act! https://lnkd.in/eSeNX9BR #MeaningfulModernization #SDVOSB #EDWOSB #WVOSB #8(a) #HUBZone
TWO YEARS AFTER THE PACT ACT: EXPANDING HEALTH COVERAGE AND ACCESS FOR VETERANS LIKE NEVER BEFORE When President Biden signed the PACT Act into law on August 10th, 2022, he authorized the largest expansion of health care and benefits for Veterans in a generation. And we immediately got to work, accelerating eligibility for new benefits for service connection related to toxic exposures immediately; hiring more health care workers to our highest level ever to ensure we had the capacity to deliver more health care to more Veterans, and accelerating health care eligibility to every Veteran deployed to post 9/11 conflicts in Central Command earlier this year. Two years in: more than 710,000 new Veterans enrolled in VA health care (a 34% increase from the two years prior); more than 800,000 enrolled Veterans saw their health care coverage increase, and we are now delivering 20% more new patient primary care appointments as a result. A big risk was potential seeing wait times increase with all the new Vets coming in for care; instead, we have improved wait times for primary care and mental health by almost 10% each this year compared to last year. Veterans deserve the very best health care America has to offer. Honored to work with a world-class VA team in implementing a law that gets us closer to what President Biden calls our one sacred obligation as a nation: “To prepare and equip those women and men we send into harm's way, and care for them and their families when they return home.” Also honored to summarize our work with colleagues Adam B. and VA Under Secretary for Benefits Joshua Jacobs in JAMA, Journal of the American Medical Association: https://lnkd.in/e7_a64eS

Agile is an Umbrella. Having begun in software development, Agile methodologies have revolutionized project management, offering a flexible, iterative approach that contrasts sharply with traditional waterfall methods. Within the Agile framework, there are various methodologies, each with its unique focus and tools. Despite these differences, Agile itself stands out as an overarching philosophy, rooted in common sense and flexibility. Understanding Agile Methodologies - Since its inception, Agile has grown and evolved to include a variety of methods that are used in real-world situations. Many of these methods have been codified, packaged, and sold as frameworks for coaches and practitioners to use, bringing structure and consistency to businesses and teams alike. No one framework is better than the other, they all have benefits that are useful in specific situations. A masterful coach knows how to pick and choose the right tools from the available frameworks and methods to best suit the situation where they are working and bring continuity to that agile implementation. This is the same as many other fields with versions of the tools best suited for specific use. Think of Agile as a kitchen knife, a lawn mower, or a bathroom design. They all come in different shapes and sizes with a variety of specific benefits for the user. To get the best one for yourself, you need to know the content in which you would like to use the tool, go get some expertise about which tool would meet your needs, and then start to use it. In many cases, you might even hire someone to come assist in the use of the tool, from a professional chef (like eating out at a restaurant) to a lawn service contract, or a bathroom remodeling company. At Snowbird Agility, we are the experts in how to best use Agile in any given situation and know just the right tools from the Agile frameworks to use that will help you best implement your project management transformation.... Isn’t Agile just for Software Developers? That’s a great question. The simple answer is no, it’s not. It’s just that software development is where Agile was born. It’s grown up, matured, and expanded its wings since then. Agile is for everyone and everything. Agile is a mindset, a way to think through a project, be responsive and productive, and do it with good teamwork. Agile is not a kanban board, a sprint, or a PI-planning session. Those are tools that Agile can use for a project, but they aren’t required, and they aren’t applicable all the time. There are other very successful project management tools out there that can be responsive, productive, and have fantastic teams. The reason we use Agile is because our teams are more responsive, more productive, and the teams feel more connected and find their flow together more often. You might think Agile is just for software developers because of where it began. Agile started back in the early 2000s when a group of software developers got together to address the inefficiencies they were stumbling over with traditional project management. Over the previous decade before they met, software development was in its infancy and these developers realized that there was a better way to do their work. The older processes, which had roots in the Industrial Revolution, didn’t apply anymore. Since they weren’t in that factory-like environment anymore, these software developers came together and wrote down some of the new best practices they had identified for their work. The result was the Agile Manifesto. This is a document and declaration that emphasizes a flexible, collaborative, and customer-centric approach to working – specifically working on software development at the time. But it is applicable to other types of work as well. The manifesto itself is succinct and promotes four core values with 12 underlying Principles. Here are the four core values: - Individuals and interactions over processes and tools - Working software over comprehensive documentation - Customer collaboration over contract negotiation - Responding to change over following a plan These values form the foundation of agile methodologies, which many of you have seen, read, and worked with before. These ideas are common sense ideas. Any idea or project that people are working on can – and do – use these values and principles as guidelines. Think about it. If you look at these values, they make sense...
