Guillermo del Toro says firearms on set aren’t necessary. During a 2022 panel discussion hosted by The Hollywood Reporter, the conversation about safety on sets came up following the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Alec Baldwin’s upcoming movie "Rust". Del Toro shared that he hasn’t shot a real gun in any of this movies since 2007. From the practical safety point of view, there’s no reason to do it, he shared. If he can choose the route of safety precautions when it comes to using fire arms on set, certainly other productions can do the same.
