Inspiring leadership for a renewable energy future.

About us

Solar Head of State is a non-profit association formed by a team of solar energy activists around the globe. By installing solar energy systems on government buildings, the country's leadership is given first-hand experience with the proven benefits of renewable technologies. Each system is a demonstration project to inspire the mass adoption of solar energy and other renewable energy technologies by the citizens of the country and around the world. We aim to create an aspirational solar leadership club that inspires other leaders to follow suit by installing solar energy on their own executive residence's and adopting favorable renewable energy policies.

Updates

  • The Solarization of Head of State Residences project is actively advancing renewable energy initiatives across the Pacific Islands. Recently, a workshop session was held in Fiji to raise awareness among policymakers about the opportunities of solar energy for the region’s energy transition. Key themes included experience sharing from the SHOS project, strategic partnerships for financing and investment de-risking, creating a conducive policy environment, and capacity building for both the private sector and users/beneficiaries. Since its inception in June 2020, the project has successfully deployed 1220-kilowatt solar energy systems in 10 Pacific Island Development Forum member countries. Island Innovation 's CEO James Ellsmoor 🏝️ is Chair of the Board of Solar Head of State, the NGO behind the implementation of this system. While we couldn't attend the workshop in person, we have been actively involved in the project and celebrated the achievement. The project is funded by the India-UN Development Partnership Fund with private sector support from Solaria, managed by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and implemented by the UN Development Programme (UNDP in Asia and the Pacific) in partnership with the Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF Secretariat) and Solar Head of State, symbolises a unifying commitment toward a greener future for the Pacific region.
