In many countries with a shortage of care workers, governments and employers are promoting labor migration to fill the gaps. Yet, too often, migration policies and practices ignore the rights of the workers who migrate. We will continue to work in solidarity with migrant care workers and the unions and organizations that represent them to ensure that governments promote fair regular migration pathways that ensure full worker rights and options for family unity and permanent residence while also preserving the ability for care workers to stay in their home countries. #InvestInCare #DayofCare #WorkerRights #MigrantWorkers

Promoting Worker Rights Worldwide
About us
Our Vision At the Solidarity Center, we believe that all people who work should receive the rewards of their work—decent paychecks and benefits, safe jobs, respect and fair treatment. We believe that economic and social injustice around the world are neither intractable problems nor acceptable byproducts of a global economy where some can win at the expense of many. Rather, we believe working women and men can collectively improve their wages and workplaces, call on their governments to uphold laws and protect human rights, and be a force for democracy, shared prosperity and inclusive economic development. Our partner Sabreen provides life-saving services as a paramedic. Her work is critical to her community, but her employer doesn’t always show it. She credits her union, the Union of Ambulance and Emergency Services Palestine, for ensuring that her rights as a worker are protected and she is paid what is outlined in their collective bargaining agreement. All care workers, whether they provide direct care to our loved ones who are sick or they care for our homes and children while we go to work, deserve decent working conditions, fair wages and social protections. #InvestInCare #DayofCare #WorkerRights

Sister Sisanda has provided care for expecting and new mothers in her community for nearly 20 years, but it wasn’t until 2021 that her job was recognized as permanent work by South Africa’s government. Millions of care workers around the world, who are mostly women of color and often migrant workers, from community health care workers like Sisanda to domestic workers in Brazil, provide critical services but lack legal protections and tools to make their voices heard. Through their union, the National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU), Sisanda and fellow coworkers fought for recognition and are now shifting their focus to using solidarity and collective power to lift up all community healthcare workers in the country. #InvestinCare #DayofCare #WorkerRights #MigrantWorkers

✊ More than 200 International Lawyers Assisting Workers Network (ILAW) members gathered in Casablanca, Morocco, earlier this month for at their global conference to share ideas and to collaborate on legal strategies to promote and defend #WorkerRights. Solidarity Center Rule of Law Director and ILAW Network Chair Jeffrey Vogt laid out the conference’s purpose: “Around the world, the rights of workers and unions are under attack. Employers are well-resourced and coordinated in their efforts to shape law and policy. It is essential that workers and unions do the same. Through ILAW, we can learn from each other, build from successes and failures, and strengthen our impact through legal solidarity.” #LaborRights #solidarity Check out more highlights from the conference at the 🔗/🔗 in bio:

Collective bargaining is fundamental to #workerrights and this is progress worth sharing 👏 #USMCA #Mexico #LaborRights #WorkerRights #Solidarity
Through strong labor provisions in the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), we help workers realize real collective bargaining. We do this through collaborative engagement with the government of Mexico, unions and employers through targeted technical assistance, and through the implementation of the Rapid Response Mechanism—an innovative USMCA tool that allows governments to sanction specific workplaces that do not comply with national laws on freedom of association or collective bargaining. Check out the story of a group of workers at a Goodyear facility in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, who fought to have a voice at work and see how U.S. Department of Labor is advancing labor rights through #USMCA #Mexico. At a press conference last week, the National Union of Application Workers @UNTA_Mexico spoke out about the proposed law to regulate work on digital platforms in Mexico. They recognized the advance as a victory in their struggle to be treated as workers, but pointed out the pertinent adjustments that are needed such as: salary calculation, connection time and more. Technological advances should not mean a loss of rights. We are not partners, we are WORKERS! #PlatformWorkers #WorkerRights #Solidarity
